running 2 monitors

it is safe to say something like this would help me run a 2nd monitor ? 

 

my 2080 graphics card only has one port and its hdmi....

What 2080 do you have?  They have like 5 ports.   Or do you mean you only have 1 HDMI port and you need another?

 

Why not just get an adapter for one of the other outputs on the card?

 

Btw, I think that device allows you to have multiple sources all using 1 single monitor, not what you're going for.

As you only have one HDMI port, but 3 Display ports and a usb C, you could use an adapter from display port to HDMI and then use that to power your second monitor. These adapters are cheap and work well, this would save you money as HDMI hubs are expensive.

yea the one i posted is the only one i could find and its only like $40

the one your taking about is powered by usb c and goes into another hdmi?

If you need another HDMI port simply buy a DP to HDMI cable like this:

The one you posted isn't what you think it is.  It's for plugging things INTO andt then showing on your TV, for example.  It's to give your TV more HDMI ports for Xbox, DVD players, Roku, Fire Stick, Apple TV, etc.

i was hoping to find an adapter of some sort that will allow me to run out from the graphics card then plug 2 monitors into that .. make sense?

Uhm, She is saying that you use that cable for your 2nd monitor.

 

You don't need some sort of splitter or hub or anything. 

 

2 monitors, 2 ports, 2 cables. Done.

just take off the covers for the other display ports and you have more ports? just pull on the black plastic pluggs and they come right out

Take one of those little black plastic things out of your GPU next to the HDMI cable and put that cable into that hole.

So crap like dust and dirt don't get in the ports over time and fuck up the connections when you finally use them.

 

Now go get a cable and enjoy dual monitor life

 

Oh and take that plastic off that other cable, you're not your grandmother with plastic on her couches
