Internal Storage Tier List

This is a tier list for internal storage drives, such as hard drives, solid state drives and 3D XPoint "Optane" drives.

This tier list does not represent user experience; I (quite obviously) have not tested any of these drives.

This tier list goes from A to C, where A is best and C is worst.

This tier list factors in 4KQ1T1 speeds, latency and overall cache.

Sequential Q32 is ignored completely, so expect to see some NVMe drives as the same category as some SATA drives.

why not have separate lists for SSD to HDD? Obviously comparing the two is a bit silly, when an SSD outclasses a hard drive so vastly.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

You are right, I'll make the huge text in the top of the post even bigger however. HDDs would be pretty stupid as a tier list considering it's an entire two tiers and everything performs just about the same except shitty wd greens

Is this a tiered list of storage products in general? It's going to be 20 kilometres long once you add everything.

Why not separate into types of storage?

Also why is the Tier-ing S through D? That doesn't make any sense lol.

I would do S->F, but not enough tiers for that really. S is above A

HDDs are too short (lol 2 tiers) to make an individual tier list, so I just combined it.

In that case, maybe the only useful tier list is the SSD one, for the vast majority of users an HDD is an inconsequential afterthought. Having a "good, bad, and ugly" list separate from the SSDs could be more fun than practical.

Yeah, I'll separate it into two (one for SSDs and another for 1TB 5400RPM 8MB cache goodness such as WD Greens)

This only measures raw 4KQ1T1 in which they are within 10mbps of each other
