RX 570 still any good for a tight budget?

Dovaogedy

Hey all just wanted to get some feedback. I bought an rtx 2060 at launch and some car issues came up and i ended up having to sell my 2060(im a poor college kid).

I currently have a 1080p monitor, 144 hz and my pc has an I5 8400, 16 gb ram and an EVGA 650 watt PSU.

Im looking into buying a budget GPU sometime this week or in 2 weeks

Ive seen on Amazon and newegg some Power Color and ASRock RX 570 4gbs going for $129 so im considering getting one of those.

Ive also been looking at the GTX 1660 to keep me on team green but that would be at least 2 weeks away before i could afford it.

Should i stick with team green or is the rx 570 good enough for 1080p?

I play mostly shooters like pubg, cod, my friends want to play Far Cry New Dawn as well

I was leaning towards the 1660, but the rx 570 is going for $90 less

Just wondering which of the two is the better buy.

for 144Hz, I'd advise at least a 2060, even a 1660Ti will have difficulties with keeping frame rate high enough to be enjoyable on 144Hz screen.

The RX570 is very capable for 1080p&60hz, but would not be strong enough for 144Hz IMHO.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

RX 570 will do 1080p medium/high just fine for 60fps. 144fps is a different story though. You'd have to rebuy a 2060 if you wanted that.

edit: 1660 is around 35% faster. That's a lot better, but considering it costs 70% more it's not the "bang for the buck" buy. Assuming you sold your 2060 for around $280 (1660ti prices) it would be a shame to have sold your 2060 only to have gotten back $60 overall and end up with a much slower card.

Yeah i know the 570 wont do 144hz i was looking at it more as a gap until i can afford a better gpu and for $129 its tempting.

Well like other have said 570 is a 1080p @60 FPS card, so its up to you if its tempting enough to stomach ~60 FPS on a 144Hz screen.

Yeah ive decided to get an rx 570 in a couple weeks if they are still available for $129.

I was looking at a benchmark vid from a guy on youtube and with basically with the same hardware he was getting 60+ fps on high settings which is enough for me.

Im honestly not worried about 60 vs 144hz, i game mostly on console so 60 is a huge improvement for me and im not a high competitive gamer

I bought a used ASUS ROG Strix RX 570 off ebay for $95 shipped

Card looks pretty well taken care of, seller had over 1k feedback all 100%

Hopefully it works out

  • 2 weeks later...

Love my RX 570, in my opinion it is the best bang for your buck when it comes to mid range video cards. This runs The Division and Resident Evil 2 on high settings at 1080p at 60 fps. I even play Oculus games (star trek bridge crew and robo recall) with very little stuttering.

As another poster stated above, if you want higher than 60 fps at 1080 settings you'll need to look at maybe a RX 580 or GTX 1070. My monitor can't display higher than 60 fps so it's pointless in my case.

Appreciate the feedback but i went ahead and got a used Rx 570 off ebay as noted above

Asus strix model, its handled everything i tried and even hits a good 60-70 fps on the division 2 on high

Card also never goes above 70c

I needed something cheap and this thing is a beast.
