Doesn't matter SATA is backwards compatible, so although a HDD is SATA 3 for example, it still fits in the PS4.

I have done this myself, it’s real easy.

1. Back up saves

2. Download the install tool from PS website and put on usb

3. Replace the drive

4. Switch on with usb plugged in

5. Follow on screen instructions.

took maybe 15mins to get the PlayStation ready to download my games again.

oorrrr you can just plug a USB 3 external HDD in and be done?

You can use any SATA drive no problem. Here's the full instructions on how to change the drive.

I would start with running the Backup Utility to keep from having to redownload everything.

Then go to this link and follow the directions for your model PS4: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/help-library/system---hardware/storage---data/upgrade-playstation-4-hdd/

Then scroll to the bottom of this page: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/ps4-system-software/

Click "Perform a new installation of the system software" and follow the instructions from there.

After that, run the Restore utility to restore the account and installed games. Do note that this whole process takes a while. This is gonna be your whole night most likely.

You also have the option of just adding an an external drive. All PS4s have USB 3 so on any non-Pro, the USB ports are actually faster than the internal SATA port.

Whatever you feel like it and want.

HDD; SSD, whatever.

IMPORTANT: 9,5mm height or less.

Except for that? nothing.

You just need to download the File at the bottom of the Page, should be around 1GiB large, not the update file, put it on a FAT32 (maybe exFAT) formatted USB Stick and put in PS4\UPDATE Folder.

And just replace the HDD...
