english is not my first language so sorry for any grammer / spelling mistakes :( (btw feel free to correct me)

i recently built my own pc and me being me i had my hdd plugged in when i was installing windows. i found out later but i didn't bother restarting the process of installing windows because i had already installed 500gb of data but now it is really anoying because for what i do i need to restart me pc often and you guessed it i hate myself. so is there any way of just moving windows to my ssd without losing all my data just like moving a folder. i looked online but the only results i found where people with laptops backing up and moving everything.

here are my specs if you need them for any reason:

i7 9700k

rtx 2080

asus (rog) maximus hero xi

32gb ddr4 corsair vengeance rgb pro

samsung 970 evo plus 1tb

seagate something 1tb

and no my mom didn't buy my pc i saved up for 3 or 4 years.

but thanks in advance for reading / helping me.

Use some partition manager to clone the C and efi boot partitions (usually a 200-500mb partition) to the SSD. It might not work because the way windows installs is pretty dumb and it puts some data on the other drive that needs to be there and some other random crap.

As @TheElectronicGeek1 said windows can be stupid for... reasons. anyway if you install windows onto the ssd then use a cloning program to clone from hdd to ssd (you can't be running windows from the ssd when you do this) and it should get past any silly issues. Good luck

Yeah it likes to be dumb. I was trying to move windows 10 from one of my ssd's to another and it wouldn't work with cloning by a partition manager because there was some data on my D drive or maybe my F drive too that was confused because i was moving SSDs. thankfully both SSDs were samsung and i could use the samsung cloning software which fixed it.

You could clone Windows, but it's not the safest idea because issues can come up. Recommended idea is to grit your teeth, backup, and reinstall windows.

Try using Macrium Reflect Free. Point & click process and you can do it while the computer is running. It's foolproof and there are no downsides.

Agree, except I recommend creating USB rescue and use it that way - cloning ruining system may sometimes be not a good idea - Reflect rely on VSS service and I don't trust it so much.

If the source data isn't being changed there is zero risk.

And you never can be sure since Windows made lot of work in background. I made probably about hundred clones and the only one that fail was when I clone working system.

Last time I tried to clone windows 10 it was a failure due to windows sees new hardware and freaks out better to backup files u want to keep and install fresh

It's not freaking out, it's just installing new hardware drivers.
