Which os?

Ive got a laptop With the following specs:

 

Pentuim n3530 

8gb DDR3

320GB trash hard drive from 2011.

 

Now, I assume this is down to the hard drive, But somewhat the CPU, But performance is absolutly terrible on windows 10 and I would like to restore it to working order. 

Which os should I use? 

Im ok with linux, Although windows is preffered - Something like windows 7 home basic?

Xubuntu if you just want pure speed, though Ubuntu Budgie seemed to be reasonably fast as well while also looking less dated out of the box. For Windows though, just slap 7 Home Premium on it and call it a day (though if you have drivers for 8/8.1 I would absolutely do that instead).

An SSD would likely help a lot.

 

Some variant of Linux might speed things up a teensy bit, but an SSD is usually the fix for a snail pace PC.

You can get 120GB for $20 USD (which is roughly 15 pounds) new, why would you get a 60GB one?

Used storage isn't worth it, you never know how many writes they've had, until you get it and run software to check. Especially with how cheap SSDs have become, 500GB SSDs are like $50 USD on avg (~37 pounds), there's not much reason to get a used SSD.

 

Also, 60GB SSDs have some of the lowest write endurance of all time (30TB, which is lower than every 120GB SSD out there).

I wouldn't use XP personally, or 7 considering it has about a year of support left.

There are too many security concerns.

However, 7 has the same spec requirements as 10, I wouldn't expect any significant slowdown between the two.

Desktop:

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 @3.75* RAM: 2 by 8gb G.Skill Flare X 2400 @2666* GPU Strix GTX 1070 @1880-ish

Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 500gb; 2x 2tb Seagate Barracuda Drives; 1tb hdd (It died after 4 years :();

 

Laptop: (HP Stream 11-y010nr "Spent all my money on my Desktop" Edition)

CPU: Intel Celeron N3060 @160 BILLION hertz RAM: 400 BILLION bytes Samsung DDR3L @160 BILLION hertz 

GPU: Intel HIGH DEFINITION Graphics @32 BILLION hertz

Storage: 32 TRILLION bytes of SOLID STATE emmc C drive with 64 TRILLION bytes of SOLID STATE microSD card D drive.

 

*Overclocked around 25% of the time... questionably stable.
