New Gaming Setup

Hi all,

 

I'm looking at building a new gaming rig from scratch, as my current machine is starting to show its age.

 

My budget, including a new monitor, is around £3000 and i'm based in the UK. I'll be using it to play most new games that come out 

 

My current thinking for a new build spec (below) is coming in under that price.

I have all of the accessories such as keyboard and mouse already, as well as my older Benq monitor which I will also be using as a second screen. I also have another 500 GB Samsung 960 SSD that I would use in this as well.

 

I am currently missing case fans from this though. I'm unsure about how many I would need and which are the correct ones.

 

Are there any changes that anyone would recommend, or any issues with any of the parts I have listed?

R6 comes with case fans, 3 if I recall.  With the AIO, you'll have plenty.  

 

May want to add additional storage, like a large HDD.

 

32GB of RAM is on the high side for pure gaming, and I'd go 8700K with a cheaper motherboard.  That one is way too pricey.  For example, my Gaming 5was under $200 and OC's very well.

Your spending too much on your cpu and motherboard, go with a i5 8600k and a asus prime z370 board, there is zero differnce in gaming performance between 16 and 32gb of ram, go down to 16.

That money you saved would be enough to get you an rtx 2080.

 

The rest of the build looks fine.

 this. this is what you need if you have 3000 to spend on a rig. also, ultrawide monitor. much better for the demanding power you can get from ur rig.

op has specifically said that his usage is gaming, I know that the budget allows for 64gb of ram, but anything more then 16 is going to give zero performance increase making it a waste of money, however what wouldn't be a waste of money is changing the 2tb hard drive to an ssd, doesn't have to be nvme, an 860 evo would be just fine.

because of the high peak wattage of the 2080 ti (and the v64 for notice) it has problems, which sort of are fixed by seasonic, which caused other problems again... that's why i dropped it down in the new psu tier list i made with a couple other users

oh i know. i even mentioned that op could drop the extra. 

 

I game with 32gb of ram, simply because well, you want to not worry about having tabs open in the background possibly interfering with ram usage. (shadow of the tomb raider can take a ton in particular.)

Giving him other options. If he wants to stick with the Fractal R6 then that is his choice. There are other good cases apart from that though.

I'll actually vouch for 32GB in certain situations.  For example I hit 17-18GB of RAM used on my system in heavily modded Ark and Atlas.  Nowhere else tho, so it's a game by game basis.

 

I second the 860 EVO train of thought, or similar SATA SSD love of your choice.

The Seasonic Focus had issues with the Vega graphics cards but it was only on models pre Jan 2019 if I remember correctly. Not seen anything regarding Nvidia 2080 ti gpu's.

well, it's the same reason as the vega

 

they tuned it, but now it's not sensetive enough...

 

so that's why i temporarely suggest to stay away from it with high end cards

You got a link ? Google doesn't bring anything up when I search for any issues. As mentioned the problem with the Vega cards was sorted out, and it only affected early units anyway.

You can argue that the Focus is made without any tolerance at all and that causes them Problems...

 

But you know what? There's a ton of interesting PSU on the Market, that also deserve a mention.

The Silverstone Strider S (STxxF-GS) should be equally pricet like Focus (I hope) and that one causes no Problems with VEGA.
