Updating my rig

A7XX

Hi guys, 3 years ago I bought this PC: 

CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K
Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S
MotherBoard: Asus X99-A
Ram: HyperX Savage Black 2×8 DDR4 2800MHZ
GPU: EVGA GTX980 superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5
PSU: SeaSonic G-750 750W Gold
SSD: HyperX 240 GB
HDD: Seagate 2TB
Case: Corsair SPEC-ALPHA Mid-Tower Gaming Case (Black & Silver)
 

I am looking to upgrade, I dont want low end PC or high end one, but something similar to mine in todays standards. 

I appreciate any suggestions

Unless you want to go for high end stuff i don't really see what you would want to upgrade to be honest.

I can see you are using x99, a HEDT platform.

However HEDT is pretty much dead at this point, so may I ask what is your workload? Gaming only or professional use?

I feel some of the newer, more demanding games are slower

what games are you running at which resolution? If you want to upgrade, I'd probably just upgrade the GPU.

CPU and memory are still more than good enough for another couple of years.  The GPU is still okay, but nothing special. 

That GPU is the only thing I'd upgrade really.   I know from experience that the CPU with a mild overclock will have no issues with a 1080Ti, so I'd recommend either that, a 2080 or a 2080Ti.  With that upgrade your overall performance will be near/in the high end again. 

 

Perhaps spend the rest of your budget on a 1TB or 2TB SSD, 240GB doesn't leave you much room for modern AAA games.
