Anyone know how to fix or something a broken sata port on a hard drive? Was doing cable management and I tried tucking the sata cable down, when I did that it snapped at the hard drive.

My rig

Asus maximus z390

I9 9900k @ 5.2 Ghz 24/7 (5.4 Ghz benching)

Evga RTX 3090 ftx ultra

32GB Gskill trident z 3866 Mhz

1000 watt evga gold psu

All watercooled

It's possible to repair but the likelihood you have the equipment to do so is very unlikely.

It's possible to outright replace the PCB on the bottom of the drive. This is doable with a screw driver. However I believe the board has a chip that contains the "map" to where all the data is located on the platters. You'd have to either get the data off first or replace the PCB and run data recovery software over the drive to get everything back.

I think I fixed it. Jammed the broken plastic piece into the cable, then wiggled it onto the pins. From there I hot glued the crap out of the cable /HD. Its reading it now!

Nice cob-job. I highly recommend replacing the drive when you can.

What do you think the chance of failure is? I dug this thing out of storage to sell to my buddy. I dont want to sell it if its going to break. It had a bad hard drive and I replaced it with this one...

Personally I wouldn't even think about selling it anymore but assuming electrical contact is still being made further failure is only going to be as likely as the standard reliability of the drive.

Alright, I'll let him know of the issue and let him decide if he wants to buy it. I'm not going to put anymore money into a 3rd gen i5 system with a gtx 760 lol.

And you are right. Sucker just popped right out. Trashing that drive. Maybe western digital will replace it. If not I decided to buy another.
