H80i or H100i?

Go to solution Solved by MeltyMoon,

There is a very small difference between the h100i and the h80i. The h100i will give you an extra degree or two of performance due to the 2x120mm radiator. However if you fear compatibility issues, the h80i will be an excellent tool for overclocking ;)

Planning a new build and was confused as to which one to get? I will be trying to overclock my CPU (4770k) as far as I can on a 1.3Voltage. So cooling is ideal. Should I go for the H80i or the H100i. I am getting the define r4 can I am hearing compatibility issues with the H100i. However the H80i is $135 and the H100i is $150, so not much of a big gap in price range. Any idea which would give the best cooling? I hear they both go hand in hand with the H80i having a thicker radiator and the H100i just have a longer RAD, also I will be running the H80i if I get one in Push/Pull config with Corsair SP120s, while I would be running the H100i in Push with SP120's also. All help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance :D

Define R4 can carry an H100i no worries. People but fairly thick rads into the top of those things.

I'd personally perfer the H100i.

Any idea of the noise of the pump under a realistically high load (Gaming or AIDA64) I am a silence freak. Any of the 2 would be cooler then the other?

I unfortunately can't comment on the noise of the pump, I've never owned either. I can only talk about performance of them, sorry! :( Although one would assume that they wouldn't be that loud, and i believe you can control how fast the pump goes if you're all about silence ;). And could you elaborate on your second question? I'm a little lost (it's 3:30am here, sorry :P)

Sorry about the second question I meant to say "Any of the 2 quieter than the other one?" But if you haven't owned one I guess you couldn't comment on it. umm, I know the the whole h80i can be controlled by "Corsair Link" software. You can control the fans and the pump. But to control the fans using the software, they have to be plugged into the the actual pump. Do you know if the pump has a 3 pin connector or 4 pin? I would assume 4 pin because if the fans can be controlled I would think they would be PWM meaning 4 pin. I could be wrong though.

It's not the pump but the fans that are noisy. As they spin faster to move more air, increasing cooling, the noise increases.

The H80i in quiet mode puts out about 30.4 dB 1' from the case according to AnandTech.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

At stock clock speed and volts yeah but in overclocking especially with 8350/4770k there will be a massive difference.

... confused now is that what the h80i uses? Or is that something else? because I plan on changing the fans to the SP120 quiet edition, not sure whether I buy the 3pin versions of PWM versions. ._.

Again I'm sorry that I'm not the most knowledgeable on this topic, but I'm trying :P Another suggestion of mine would be to run the h100i (if you do plan on getting one) to run it in pull rather than push. It's easier to clean out the radiator when it's in a pull configuration, rather than a push. There's also a 0 performance hit with running the rad in pull.

The h100i should be able to fit in the r4 (barely)

No, thanks for you help, this is awesome. I want this new build to go perfectly. Yeah I don't think the H100i will fit, as it may come into contact with the heatsink on the top of the motherboard. I was hoping to use the H80i and have it in push pull either at the top of the case as exhaust of at the back as exhaust. I'm a silence freak like I mentioned before. I sorta just need to figure if I need PWM or non PWM fans to replace the stock fans. For I want to put the fans on the lowest when idle and the mid to high when under load. So I just need a bit of help with that. Again I am really grateful for you help bud! :D Thanks so much! I saw an installation of the H80i and the fans on it attach into the pump. and then the Pump has a connection that goes into the motherboard then a molex power plug also. I need to find out which fans to replace the stock fans and also find out if I may need a fan splitter extension, for cable management (OCD freak also xD)

Tbh, for the price gap, the H60 + 2 Noctua fan (push/pull) would be cheaper than the H80, quieter and near equal performance,

My computer does stay pretty cold. On a 45C day. under load it only hit 70C on a Hyper 212 EVO. Which I think is pretty darn amazing ._. Going for AIO closed loop, for it looks a bit cleaner. Also I like the look of it. But I heard if you are going to go AIO closed loop, you need to pay big bucks for adequate cooling, otherwise some of the closed loops are beaten by some air cooling solutions. I would want something that beats almost all air coolers at least. Again thanks for the suggestion, I will be sure to look into the H60. Thanks bud! :D

Okay I think i figured it out, both of those cables are for the pump (the 3 pin goes on the CPU fan header port on your motherboard), on the unit itself there are two fan connectors (which run with splitters, so each port does two fans, and I've READ that the splitter is a 4 pin design, here is an image)

Is this what you mean?

The 3 pin and and sata connectors are on that one wire that is out of the view of the shot. I'm not sure how the fan splitters are powered but I did read that they were 4 pin splitters. The usb connector is for the corsair link software, and I'm not sure what the last connector is for. It should be outlined in that article however.

H80i $135

TD03 $128 perfect for my blue and white build

Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro $113

Corsair H60 $95

Will be trying to see how far I can push a 4770k at 1.3v. Any help is much appreciated!

Was going to get the H80i but looking at the corsair forums, there seems to be a lot of problems. I want to personally go for the TD03 due to it being white and it going to be perfect for my build colour scheme. However it seems a minimal amount of people actually own, can't find some decent reviews on it. btw can someone help me figure out how to get a poll going -.- I literally have no idea why it is not working. The preview does not show the Poll, however it seems I have done everything I need to T_T. Again thanks for any help! :D

Edit: Regardless of cooler, I will be replacing all the fans with Dual SP120's Quiet edition in a Push/Pull config.

PLEASE ALSO SAY WHY YOU VOTED FOR THE COOLER YOU CHOSE! :D (Optional though)

I'd go with TD03 because it matches your build (which is most important to me....) and also to be different. Maybe you could write up a review on it?!

Yeah great idea! He should write a review
