The proprietary drivers from nvidia just make me want to pull my hair out. Every desktop environment i choose on it the screen tears or the compositing makes my experience feel sluggish as hell, recording on OBS can be broken and janky with nvenc sometimes. But when it comes to linux on my laptop with my intel integrated GPU, the experience is a lot smoother than my fricken gaming PC. It should not be this way since the card that i have on my desktop is a lot more powerful than the integrated graphics in my laptop. Gaming is fine and obviously will be better than my laptop, but i expect my desktop and OBS recording to be smooth with the GTX 660 i have in this system

Is there any way to make my experience suck less?!

I will my next build, this PC is already 6 years old and needs a refresh going into 2020 and beyond.

even if i wanted to go back to windows, the AMD card will still suit me well in the next build. I don't care about their gimmick technology. But that is just my opinion though.

i think its because your gpu is old so the newer drivers and application do not work too well with it.

what do you think a good driver version would be? 390?

run `lsmod | grep nouveau`.  If it's loaded, that can explain the slow-down.  Even on systems where I've installed the NVIDIA drivers manually, nouveau just keeps coming back (basically update your system and it silently decides to start falling back on nouveau again).

If I have to explain every detail, I won't talk to you.  If you answer a question with what can be found through 10 seconds of googling, you've contributed nothing, as I assure you I've already considered it.

What a world we would be living in if I had to post several paragraphs every time I ask a question.

Yeah pretty much.  It sucks but Nvidia doesn't care about Linux so in my experience going to the newer drivers prevents the display server from loading, while the 390 series seem to be solid even if they are older.
