Everyones hifi setups?

Derkoli

Just wondering what everyone's hifi setups are. Most of my speakers are being used up in my home theater setup (15.2.5 as of right now.. ;)) So its just two monacor sa-50's, a tube preamp which i cannot remember the model name of, two polk audio t50's, and two vintage sony bookshelfs, when i can be bothered to get two monitor audio mr6's i have in the attic the polk's will be replaced and then my HT will be 17.2.5, cause why the hell not.

My setup for sound is onboard audio(because Soundblaster Z wasnt happy in Linux sadly) going into a Fisher RS-3050 50W output reciver and from that it goes to my HD558s and the speakers my dad and his friend built in the 60s that are suposed to be a beefed up copy of the Bose 901 iirc. Not the greatest setup in the world im sure but i enjoy it a lot

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Mine is very simple but I quite like it. It wasn't without it's problems but once those got diagnosed and fixed, everything is magical.

Woo Audio WA8 Eclipse via USB from PC and Focal Utopia headphones. When listening to music, it's from Tidal but otherwise serves as daily driver for everything from youtube to gaming just fine ?

This is just what's connected to my main rig...

for music - Oppo HA-1 DAC/amp with Oppo PM-1 cans

for gaming - Mayflower Electronics DAC/ADC/amp with AKG K7xx cans and Modmic 5

for general use - 7.1 home theater setup. the sub is hidden but basically the HEDT rig has a Sound Blaster Z encoding and upmixing 5.1 via optical to the AVR, a Yamaha RX-A1030, 5 Yamaha NS-777 towers (FL C FR SL SR) 2 NS-333 bookshelf speakers (SBR SBL) and a HSU VTF-15H Mk 2 powered subwoofer.

thanks! Yep, I'm always function over form and making the most utility wherever possible.

Home theater sound for a PC just made sense to me after going through various "pc speaker" sets as a kid, the last of which was a Logitech 5.1 system that I ended up modding to pull the volume controls out and mount in a custom plastic box under the desk. Finally had enough and just got it all going through the AVR instead.

True i had the logitech z906 system and then when i got a yamaha home theater in a box i was addicted to proper home theater sound. ended up with just an overkill system..

Even though the 598's are 23 ohm i still think they sound way better with an amp, dac and preamp.

I always loved the filament glow from the old vacuum tubes (especially the old mercury vapor rectifier tubes) but prefer the purer sound of today's solid state amps. Let's face it, though, vacuum tubes do have cool geek appeal.

They're not all strictly hi-fI's, but maybe worth sharing anyway since I find each piece of gear excellent in a specific area for my needs.

Speakers/Amps:

Studio monitors (KRK RP5G2, Monoprice 10" studio sub, Behringer 3102 EQ/Crossover getting it within +/- 2db from 32Hz to 24KHz)

Bose 301 Series V with Fisher amp from early 70s (no model number to be seen, but I LOVE it. I'm super biased toward this system because it was my grandfathers.)

Polk R30 with DIY mosfet amp because I got bored one day.

Headphones:

AKG K7XX (my everyday listening headphones)

AKG  K44 (cheap, but surprisingly ok. They live on the drum kit now for recording)

Sony MDR V6 (from the early 90s, before they turned to plastic garbage. Mainly used for recording vocals and guitars)

Klipsch R6 with Comply foam (for super loud location sound recording)

Misc. Audio Goodies:

Teac TN200 phonograph

LG V20 (My proud daily driver, still among the best phones available for audiophiles)

Behringer UMC 404 HD (an unbelievable deal)

Tascam US-800

Tascam M164FX mixer

I have a simple setup:

JBL LSR305P MkII studio monitor satellites.

JBL LSR310S sub

Dragonfly Red DAC

Monoprice cables

I'm currently using Media Monkey and VLC on my notebook for my music source.

The satellites perch on speaker mounts mounted to the wall. The behemoth sub sets inside a homemade printer stand under my color laser printer at the left of my desk, under the left satellite (the stand is open in the front and has a cutout in the back for the sub cables and cutouts in the bottom for the sound from the downfiring driver to get out through).

Pricewise, it's about midrange (almost $1k). The sound is great for the small room it's located in. Anything better would be overkill for where I get my music (mostly from ripped CDs where actual quality is all over the map).

Nope nope nope nope

My setup costs 130 USD. Fiio M3K with the Tin Audio T2s. I am not worthy.

Okay. Just changed some stuff. now running the sony's facing in towards the user (essentially now the L and R channels are bipolar now.) and the imaging and soundstage is 100% better. Also just ordered two tube power amps, so I'm gonna have 2 spare amps. maybe time for more speakers? :)

price doesnt really define audio quality, maybe it does jumping from 2 dollar ebay headphones (those cheap chinese headphones with brands like "meeps by dr andrews" or whatever) to something like tin audio t2's, granted my HT setup cost WAY too much (15k+ or something.. id hate to know.) it does sound good. although something about stereo on a scratchy amplifier with odd dynamics still makes me smile.

Price matters less than what makes you happy. Everyone has different ears and different tastes. The only time you should feel obligated to spend more money is if what you have doesn't satisfiy you and only someting more expesive has the sound you want or you deliberately strted woith the bare bones basics to get started then add compnents as you can afford them. An example is starting with a pair of speakers that can run directly off the MOBO sound, then adding a DAC and a sub later as you can afford them (assuming you even need them; not everyone does).
