Using old router as a WiFI repeater

PotatoWithaLaser

I am new to Netowrking, so my apologies if I'm slow at anything.

I am trying to set up an old router (technicolor C1100T) as a wifi repeater, as the wifi downstairs is atrocious. Have no idea where to start really, as the menu's are confusing me. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Potato

It looks like your router supports bridge mode, but I can't tell if it supports repeater functionality.

What would be the difference between the two? I saw that as well

The main difference between a wireless repeater and a wireless bridge is that a repeater simply extends the range of a network while a bridge ties two networks together. A client bridge links computers. A wireless repeater connects routers.

I see, seems more of an IT scenario than SOHO scenario

its useful for if your pc only has an Ethernet connector and you can't run a wire.

Disable DHCP, connect to ethernet network (using the normal ports, not the "internet" port), new WiFi hotspot wherever the router is located.

I'd prefer not to run a CAT5 cable from upstairs, thus the repeater idea. If it won't work, I will, but I'd prefer a wireless method

You generally cant do that without a custom firmware like OpenWRT.

Also, generally the router needs two radios to work well as a WiFi repeater.  Unless you dont mind it being slow as molasses.
