I currently got an 1050ti and a ryzen 3 2200g. My cpu is vr ready but my gpu isnt, so i looked up cheap vr ready grapichs and found an r9 290x. And the r9 290 and 290x is vr ready accordingly to https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/vr-ready-premium, but when i look up r9 290x vs 780ti the 780ti is about 20% faster on some things. But now comes the weird part, the 780ti isnt vr ready? i at least didnt find any article/site talking about the 780ti and vr ready, they dont say its vr ready on the nvidia site either, but the r9 290x is even if the 780ti is faster at some things? are the 780ti really not vr ready or are the site i compared them on wrong? The lowest gpu on the nvidia site that they say are vr ready are the 900-series (pic attached). Im probably wrong on some things but dont blame me since im really lost.

the 780ti and r9 290 were tied at launch, but as time has gone on, the 290x has become faster, while 780ti has gotten slower.

Your gtx1050ti is more VR ready than gtx 780ti anyways, you can use it fine for simpler vr games, just dont expect it to run Arizona Sunshine at ultra settings.

But i wouldn't waste money for either, use your gtx1050ti for VR until you get money for 980ti/ fury X/ GTX 1070.

With 1050ti you can just turn the settings down to low in most vr games and it will run.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

the R9 290x is notably faster than the 780TI, the 780TI is about as fast as the 970 though so it will work fine. The R9 290 can have its power limit lifted and get up to pretty much the R9 290x in performance. I doubt that its going to be an amazing expeience but it should work pretty well

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

You can run most VR games just fine with 1050ti.

I have played some games with 1050 2GB but it was so so playable, demanding games were unplayable.

Forget about SSAA though.

Regarding 780ti, there is some extra HW to help VR performance in a 1000 series cards.

290X is better because it always had more raw performance which seems to help a lot in VR.

I saw that you said my 1050ti was more vr ready that the 780ti, but the r9 290x is faster than my 1050ti and its slower than the 780ti? I looked up the 780ti vs my 1050ti and the 780ti is about 80%-100% faster than the 1050ti. And the r9 290x is about 80%-100% faster than the 1050ti too. And i found an old r9 290x for about 95$, isnt that a good deal?

It depends. If you want to play high end VR games then 1070 is the bare minimum, so i just wouldn't buy a gpu, if i was gonna buy a faster one anyways. How long would it take for you to get gtx1070/fury x/980ti?

But out of these 2, 290x is faster than 780ti, if you want to buy it, then no doubt you will get a little bettter vr experience.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

well i was thinking about selling my 1050ti to get some money for the r9 290x. i bought the 1050it about 1 month ago for about 165$ and since its barely used im thinking about selling it for 120-150$

That selling price is a bit optimistic. Unless it is an Asus Strix model, that is too much, 90$ seems more reasonable, BUT that's is on my market, if your local market is like that the go for it.

But if you are upgrading anyways maybe just try to get something more powerful, 980ti, amd r9 fury should be pretty available.

yeah well 290x isn't a bad deal, so if you can't find anything better it should still give a good vr experience.
