Bottleneck for this card and CPU?

123123plays

I am looking to upgrade my GPU to a more recent mid-range NVIDIA one. Right now I have an i5-3570 and an AMD Radeon HD 5670 GPU. I have been told that anything more than a 1060 6GB would be a bottleneck for 1080P but right now, my monitor is 1440P. Which one would you recommend for these specs? I would say my budget is up to £350 at absolute most.

These are the choices I am looking at:

RTX 2060 targets high-FPS 1080p and 60 FPS 1440p. If you are looking for better than 60FPS I would wait and safe up for a better one later! Your Processor is getting older and might bottleneck the GPU a little bit, but for now it should be fine. I also have no idea what i talk about most of the time so take this with a grain of salt. ?

PC Set up

CPU: I9-9900k

Mobo: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro-Wifi

GPU: MSI RTX 2070 Gamin Z

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 16 GB 3000MHZ (8GB X 2)

RAM: Corsair Vengence Pro Lighting Enhancement Kit (0GB X 2)

Storage: Samsung 860 EVO 1TB

PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750 W 80+ Gold Fully Modular

my choice will be EVGA's 3 slot single fan 2060. Among cheaper 2060 that's in your budget (they all perform similarly, except dual slot single fan ones being weaker) EVGA hs the best customer service team. Not much bottleneck at 1440p (depends on the game), higher resolution stresses out the GPU but hardly affects the CPU compared to the lower resolutions.

1st one to shoot down, it's one of the worse 1070s, performs like a 1660ti, costs more.

cheap but more of a 1080p card

We should get more specific. Even at 1440p a quad core won't do so well, what's your game library look like, and what do you plan on playing?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I don't really play many AAA titles, I mainly play simulators, e.g. fernbus, police simulators but I may try a few once I get my new card

I bet those are easy to run on something like a 1060 6GB or RX 580 at 1440p, these seem like very graphically simple games. If you wanted a CPU bump without a new motherboard, a 3770 from eBay is a relatively convenient and inexpensive upgrade when you get the chance.

would be a pretty large bottle neck with that card, I would look into upgrading your CPU and GPU together.

I can't afford also upgrading my motherboard and RAM, would a used i7 3770 off eBay be alright?

Lasting a few years is what your CPU has already done, if you plan on upgrading that at some point after the graphics card then it's a good idea, but otherwise no.

Planning to build a whole new PC and put that new GPU in it in about 6 months

Then yeah, a 1660ti is a good buy. I wouldn't worry about a bottleneck if it's being rectified somewhat soon.

If a GPU is labelled 'gaming x' and is more expensive, does that mean it will be better than other of the same GPU?

That's MSI's brand, and usually it's better than other MSI cards but not cards from other brands like EVGA. You can use pcpartpicker to compare brands and go to the websites of the brands to see their clock speeds, or check out online reviews.
