Can’t install graphics card

lil genderfloo

Hi :)

i’m building my first pc, and everything is going just fine... I just can’t install my graphics card.

having removes all of the “shield” type removeable things on the side of my case, I still can’t seem to fit my GPU into the PCIe slot.

It fits just fine in the right side, but it will not go in on the left side - I have tried using more force than I’d like to in order to try and get the damn thing in the slot.

i suspect that the part of the card that has the HDMI slots might be bent a little?

(see photos)

please help me, I do not have much time to finish this before my exam tomorrow

On the far right, is the card resting on the capacitor?

Nm, think it's the angle of the pic.

Try putting it in the left side first?  The metal IO piece should fit in first, then the card just lowers into the slot.  I always go left to right, not right to left.

There is only 1 slot on the motherboard - is it normal for the left side of the graphics card to be slightly bent?

can you show us this part of the graphics card? it's really important for the IO Shield to be straight

im pretty sure you are right with this one, it does appear the GPU is on the capacitor. It really is awkward why the board would have them there however. But I do think this is them.

It can happen. Additionally, you may need to slightly adjust the tabs on the card as they don't always line up properly with the case:

Defo looks bent my dude, however that may just be lighting and camera trickery,

Grab yourself a screwdriver & the correct screw & see if it can be aligned without much/any force required.
& remember, be careful with GPUs they're not super resilient, but they're also no super flimsy

  • Insert the left hand side (closest to the back of the case) first, be sure to line up the bottom of the card with the two slots below the motherboard on the case itself
  • Insert the screws
  • Align the card and insert the rest of it into the PCIe slot, slight bending of the card is okay, but don't put your full strength into it

If all else fails, the bracket can be removed from the front of the card by undoing these screws:

Removing the bracket as suggested by you allows me to install the card... however, there is no way of mounting it safely to the motherboard but I guess it works as a troubleshoot - the IO bracket on the card is the problem.... where do I go from here?

I would separate the bracket from the card. Install the bracket by itself (if even possible) and then install the card. Once both are installed, bend the bracket into shape while reattaching it to the card.

Hi :)

i’m building my first pc, and everything is going just fine...

Feel free to contact MSI support and let them know the bracket on your card came bent. They might send you a replacement bracket free of charge. Otherwise good to hear that it's working for you now!
