Hey

I have a intel g530 and i would like to use it for a HTPC so i can watch movies on my tv. I have tried it, and it can't play 1080P videoes. It is running windows home server for backup of pc's right now and i'm planing on using xbmc on top on it.

I have motherboard, 4 gig ram 550 watt PSU. I know it's properly not the best gear but i hope with a graphics card it would do it.

Any recommendations?

You could just get a new cpu like the G1610.

How much money do you have for a GPU/APU solution?

The way Intel labels them is a bit confusing. They don't have the same exact iGPU solution yet they name it just 'Intel HD Graphics'. A g1610 should have no issues with 1080p bluray playback.

The G1610 works with the motherboard. Update your bios just in case though.

The 6950 isn't exactly a cheaper graphics card nor low end either.

The pricing is funny there then. If i'm not wrong the the g1610 is cheaper then g530? at least here in denmark

This is because Sandy bridge is older than Ivy and is being phased out.
