PSU for budget PC

Andrew279cz
Go to solution Solved by LukeSavenije,

Hey,

so I have been gathering parts for a budget gaming PC consisting of:

i5 4670k (I want to overclock it to around 4.2Ghz)

16gb ram

Z87 mobo

RX 580 8gb

1TB HDD

The thing is, I don't know which PSU should I get. I don't want to spend too much on it because it ads little to no value to the build.

I want to get a SSD there for sure, but is a 240gb ssd worth it?

Also, I live in the EU, so add around 40% to the price in the US (Praise the EU!).

Thanks!

I would find something semi-modular in the 5-600w range

Yes, I have been thinking about something similar, but I need names. There is quite a lot of those PSUs in various price ranges. The one I'm looking at is a Seasonic S12II 620W

I'd not go for the S12II or M12II. They are very old group-regulated units that are very outdated (v1 was made in 2007, and v2 was in 2013, for comparison most modern power supplies are from 2015 or later). If you don't understand what this means, it means it's outdated as fuck and shitty as fuck.

Most of them are either not sold here anymore or stupidly overpriced (Corsair CXM 550w for 110$)

This is what I'm asking about. Most of this information is really hard to come by, so this is why I'm asking. Something around the 500w - 600w that isn't ancient or overpriced.

I'm looking for something around/under the 1500 Kč price (75$). Also, Alza.cz is overpriced, please use czc.cz , thanks :)

@NunoLava1998 will probably agree it's s heck or a lot better than a s12ii

Ok, I will take your word for it! If it explodes I won't most likely have it. So pray for my cousin, his life depends on it!

Of course it ain't that great, what'd you expect for like 40€ or so (in Germany).

IF you want cheap, you get cheap. And the System Power 9 is, with the Xilence Performance A+, the best you can do in lower price ranges.

The Pure Power is better as are some other units.

Ähm, you complain about the System Power beeing not great and loud at higher loads and think about Seasonic S12II???

THAT unit is _REALLY_ Loud.
If you have a 120mm fan on your CPU, put it at 12V and you got an idea.

Though after market 120mm don't go to the 2000rpm as the S12II does...

Look for "S12II Gecid" on google and you find a (russian/ukrainian) review of that unit where they did test the fan speed.

No, its from 2010. The S12 was even earlier than that, IIRC around 2006 or so. S12II came later (somewhere around 2008 or so).

The S12II-Bronze is a cost down version of that. And not only that but it also lacks protection.

And is loud as hell.

(650W and 12 fucking year warranty lmao)

a) 650W isn't really needed

b) pls don't oversell the Warranty. That has to be seen as a bonus, not used as an argument for/against a PSU!

Because 12 Years is a god darn long time. 12 Years ago there was Tagan, PC-Power and Cooling, BFG and Enermax was at its peak.

Now, 12 years later some companys went under, some other withdrew from some markets. So in the end it might be something you can clean your behind with at most but even that isn't really possible. So it can be totally worthless.

And you have to keep the receit for it.

And you have to remember that it has that rediculous warranty...

In short. I doubt that you can use that warranty in 12 Years (wich means 2031)...

if it was that kind of quality, i would NEVER recommend it

i mean it has over-current, over-voltage under-voltage, short circuit, overheating and overloads protection, you/your cousin shouldn't have anything to worry about
