In my country the 8700k and the 9700k are the same price(445 euro's), the 9600k is 160 euro's cheaper(285 euro's). I'm mainly going to use my system for gaming at 1440p 144hz and don't know which cpu is best for me. I'm hoping someone here can tell me which one would be best for me and why.

PC Parts:

Intel core I7 9700k

Zotac gtx1080 amp xtreme

Gigabyte Aorus Z390 ultra

Nzxt kraken x72

2x8gb ddr4 3200 mhz

Samsung 970evo+ 500gb

Enermax maxtytan 800W titanium

I would get 8700k because it's pretty much the same thing in gaming, and Z370 boards are cheaper compared to Z390.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

Normally yeah, but I was convinced I was gonna get the 9600k and bought a z390 board, but then I started doubting. So I allready have a z390 board, is the 8700k still the best option then?

The i5-9600K has 6 cores, 6 threads and is currently £260 in the UK.
The i7-8700K has 6 cores, 12 threads and is currently £380 in the UK.
The i7-9700K has 8 cores, 8 threads and is currently £400 in the UK.

The i7-8700K is 17% faster than the i5-9600K.
The i7-9700K is 25% faster than the i5-9600K.

Z370 motherboards, in the UK at least, start at £85, £87 and £96.
Z390 motherboards, in the UK at least, start at £105, £110 and £120.

No idea if that helps you but there it is :P

This question really depends on your personal preference on whether those 160 euros matter to you that much. I personally have the 9600k and i'm currently bottlenecked on fps by my gpu (Sapphire rx580 nitro+ special edition) not my cpu (only runs at 25% while gaming most of the time due to games not utilizing multiple cores) . So if you're not planning on doing any CPU intensive things (CAD, rendering) and just gaming I would go with a 9600k and just upgrade your gpu instead. That being said if price is not a worry then just go with the 9700k.

Here, price differences are negligible, 9600k is even cheaper than 8600k. And 9th gen core CPU-s again use soldered heat spreader caps, so more suitable for OC-ing.

Though de-lidding of 8th gen seem to work well for reducing overheating. Just another factor to make your choice more difficult : ) : o)

I'd pick 9600k btw, more threads would be useful in a workhorse or for streaming. Yours to decide.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
