The size of gaming monitor

webguy

Hi.  I am planning to buy a new gaming monitor and due to recommendations I have read here on the forum I am planning to get a 240hz 1ms monitor.  Why do I see many streamers using only 24 or 24.5" monitors?  I plan to use this on a desk while sitting in front of it.  Why not a 27" or bigger?  Is bigger not better with gaming monitors?  Thanks!

My personal experience is that if you're wanting to get a bigger size monitor with 1ms, it's going to cost you a hell of a lot of money. Might not be worth it for some people. It didn't for me.

The larger your monitor the lower you pixel density, for 1080p 240Hz monitors 23-25" is best. For 1440p you see a lot of 27" monitors and even the 34" ultra wides.

27" is actually a little bit big for your average high refresh rate gaming monitor.

As @JM21 said, you lower pixel density with higher display sizes which can have an adverse effect on viewing quality. For many professionals, they want the best viewing quality they can get, which gives them the options of shelling out for large, high resolution, high refresh rate panels(which in turns demands a higher end system), or paying less for a more affordable setup overall featuring 1 or 2 smaller lower resolution high refresh panels.

Thank you for the information.  I do not mind spending more if a bigger monitor would be helpful in competitive fps games.  I want the kind of monitor that shroud or ninja would use.  If 24.5" is the best size for that type of game then that is what I will get.  I just thought a 27 or so would be more ideal so you see more.  I want 240hz so that is what matters most.

27" is perfect if you sit at a desk. 144Hz are more than enough and i doubt you will notice any difference between 1ms and 5ms.

I definitely want 240hz.  I want the highest refresh rate and 1ms response rate.  I just need to decide on the size of the monitor.  I guess 240hz is only 1080p so then that would make sense what you said about that is why they do not use the bigger screens due to pixels.  I wish I could get a 240hz 1ms ultrawide curved.  I do not mind spending up to 900 if needed.

27" is more 1440p territory not sure if there is 1440p 240Hz,

27" 1080p has a lower DPI count and the image quality this suffers.

You can't have your cake and eat it to ya know.  No such thing as a curved 240hz monitor.  You can however get a 144hz 24" if your playing at 1080p and 27" for 1440p like the chap above me said.

Thank you for the recommendations.  I want 240hz so I guess I will do a 24.5.

24" or so really is the best fit for most for competitive games, 27" max while retaining enough good ppi too.

240Hz ones are 24"-27" in size. No need to look around but focus more and see everything. I personally prefer 24"
