GPU seriously underperforming, not sure why

Hey guys,

I have a 1070 paired with an i7-6700k on an msi z170A SLI plus mobo and the 1070 is underperforming. I've ran several benchmarks and it always yields results 10-20% lower than expected. I've tried OC'ing it which helped a little but not much. It is slotted in the upper most slot so i know that is not the issue. I am using it for everything and even have all settings to prefer max performance rather than experience. You guys have any tips?

Thanks a bunch.

temps are fine, never go above 80 C when full load testing. Is gpu-z an application?

Yeah, GPU-Z is a program you can grab from here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Also, 80C is kinda high. What case do you have?

Sorry, just got home from work so, open up GPU-Z and click on the sensors and look for PerfCap Reason.

Go ahead and fire up a stress test and check what that says after a minute or two.

I am having the same issue with my 2080. In GPU-Z my PerfCap reason is "Pwr" which is a power consumption limit, or so I've read. How do I change this?

Did you plug in 6-pin/8-pin ?
Also, Is slot "@ x16 3.0" speed ?
Last option is trying DDU (DisplayDriverUninstaler) and different driver.

I raised the power limit to the max, 125, and I am still having the Pwr PerfCap reason

Make sure you have "Unlock Voltage control" enabled if you are using MSI Afterburner.

I'm not familiar with 20 series Overclocking so keep that in mind.

Once you have Voltage control enabled you'll have to raise the Core Voltage and the Power limit.

You'll eventually hit Vrel perf cap reason which just means you've reached the maximum safe Voltage the card allows without any mods.

What are you comparing it to exacting?

Never above 80c isn’t a good thing on pascal.  I know I lost 152hz from running in the high 70’s alone.

there are 2 6+2 pins for power, according to the motherboard manual the PCIe slot is PCIex16 running at x16, I am unsure what DDU is

I got a half Vrel, half Pwr perfcap reason that slowly changed to just Pwr

Would this be the same thing with a Radeon Vega 56? I often run at around 76c when gaming. This thread has thought me how to check why my card is under performing, Can't wait to check it when I get home.

No idea of the states on the red team. Given how hot they run, I’d assume they aren’t as bad as pascal.

I have enabled voltage control but "Core Voltage" is grayed out and I'm unable to raise it, while the power limit is still at 125

Go into Settings, first tab, unlock voltages or whatever, check that and it will force Afterburner to reset then you can move that limiter.
