I'm using localized VLC, so if anything isn't excatly same, thats why. All files open, then File > Save Playlist to File (Ctrl+Y) > <filename>.xspf (the default). That file should show as VLC file, having VLC logo. If not, then you need to set its default program to VLC. Then you can just open that file by double-clicking on desktop.
Other formats should also work. I don't use VLC for music, I have that library on Foobar, so I can't give any further help confifuring that.
