GTX 670 bios mod info

i am seriously considering finally biting down and bios modding my GPU to max out the voltage limit and get the highest overclock possible. however i have never done any bios modding before so i need all relevant info on bios modding Kepler (gtx 600 series) cards. also i need to know all possible risks involved and how to go about reversing any negative effects. essentially i need a full bios mod guide. please only comment if you have experience and have done bios modding with a 600 series card!

honestly even 40Mhz would be nice. if i can just get above this damn 1150Mhz barrier to even 1200Mhz i will be happy. i just need to max this card out so i can live with it until i replace it.

Performance difference is minimal, 4% or less.  Fans will be extremely loud and temps high.

 

If you do not have a 4gb card, performance problems like hitching will not be changed either.

 

What card specifically do you have?

Hi I'm the local Kepler guy ?

I spent months on the Kepler refresh(7xx series) for doing my own BIOS for my cards.

So see as you have an Asus card you are limited to 1.212v on Kepler with the voltage controller they decide to use for 6xx and 7xx cards, you will probably end up with a 25-30MHz core speed increase adding voltage. If your temps are 60 and below you will see more scaling. But keep in mind you will need to adjust the power table as well to give yourself enough headroom for power draw as Kepler wants a lot. Some cards will scale better on air than water regardless of what GPU-Z says about ASIC quality with Kepler. I had 2x GTX 770's reference PCB/cooler and they did 1405MHz core at around 72-77C at 1.3v. That also took almost 4 months of testing and editing the BIOS to find what worked best as far as the power table and boost table.

What card specifically do you have?

my specific card is an Asus GTX670-dc2-2GD5. currently overclocked to 1150Mhz via a +117 on the core and +405 on the memory.

I do have an Asus card and i would preferably just mod the bios one with maxed voltage and whatever else is needed to do that. my fan curve is set so that my temps never go over 60C and i use headphones so i don't really care about the noise. I just want the easiest and safest method possible so i can avoid bricking my card but still maxing performance.

There is really no safe method of doing it unfortunately. It goes along the lines of if something is wrong in the BIOS for the power table or you flash incorrectly the card is a great paper weight.

You will need NVFlash 5.206.0.1, just tested, it works.

 

You need to put NVFlash and KBT in a folder with an easy name on the C drive as you will be using command prompt to read/flash the bios.

 

Run CMD as administrator

cd\(name of folder where nvflash is)

run "nvflash --save keplerstock.rom"

 

leave CMD open and switch to a file explorer window

navigate to your folder

copy keplerstock.rom and change the copies name to keplermod.rom

edit keplermod.rom with KBT.

 

Set memory speed in the first tab

Set fan max speed to 100 is the first tab

set the first two entries in the voltage tab to 1212.0mv - 1212.0mv and 1212.0mv - 1212.0mv

in the power table tab set the "max" settings for each entry to double the "def" value.

save to keplermod.rom

 

back to cmd...

run nvflash --protectoff

run nvflash keplermod.rom

reboot and cross your fingers

 

With a reference voltage regulator you will be stuck at 1.212v without hardware mods (voltage is driver locked).

This will give you a maximum power limit in Afterburner of 200%

This MAY result in ~1200 core clocks.  It is NOT worth the risk for 50mhz.  50mhz will NOT change your gaming experience.

With my 4gb GTX 670, 1175 to 1228 core results in zero change in how games play, 1%-3% performance difference.  On a 2gb card it will make even less difference.

 

Fan noise is also unbearable.
