Hi,

I have not built a PC before, but I am looking at creating an all round machine if possible. I do a lot of Drone work and editing, which could be up to 4k at times. I also do my fair share of gaming and would like my PC to be able to cope well all round. My potential build would be the following:

Item
Processor AMD Threadripper 2950x
Processor Fan Corsair H100i V2.0
MotherBoard ASUS ROC ZENITH
RAM G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB
Storage SSD SAMSUNG EVO 1TB
Storage HDD 4tb WD Purple
Video Card Asus - GeForce GTX 1070ti
Case Corsair - 750D ATX
Power Supply

EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 850W

Have I got everything covered? Is there anywhere that you would improve? Will it be capable of gaming and Editing and playing 4k Videos?

Any replies would be much appreciated

you say ultimate PC but have a 1070TI on the list, lol.

Whats your budget? Whats your country? What games are you playing? What resolution are you playing at?

Honestly, you probably don't need a threadripper 2950X. A high end Intel CPU like (can't believe I'm saying this) the 9900k might be better in this case. It will probably take a little longer for the renders, but at the same time, you'll get better gaming performance and save some money because the CPU and motherboard will be cheaper.

What would you recommend other that the 1070ti? I am a novice to this really.

The budget is sort of variable by my work so its hard to say at the moment. I will be playing games like Far Cry, GTA etc... and I would like to play as high a resolution as possible.

what software do you use for video work? if its anything made by Adobe id go for Intel instead probably

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I mean, you probably don't want to spend a shitload of money. I honestly don't recommend you playing in 4K (thats the highest res to consumers right now). Maybe 1440p? If you don't have monitors you'll have to buy them.

Yea I would use all adobe software, Video editing is Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Does Intel handle this better?

Yeah. Adobe favors clock speeds and Intel is able to hit higher clock speeds than AMD. Threadripper doesn't go as high as a 9900k or other Intel high end CPU.

What would you recommend instead of the 1070ti? The trouble is the drone captures in 4k so for the editing side of things it would need to be able to render 4k data

yah Intel tends to perform better, take a look here:

here you can see the 2990WX getting crushed in premiere pro and at 14min you can see the Intel chips win again in Photoshop. If you use Blender a lot then TR is great, but as you use a lot of Premiere Pro i would recomend getting an I9 9900K or one of the higher end HEDT chips from Intel

The CPU is going to be the main factor in rendering, but I assume you know about speeding up the render by using the GPU and CPU to render the files faster. An RTX card will be better than a 1070Ti for this. Choose a resolution before a card, though.

You don't have to get a 4k monitor to watch 4k footage, I think it'll just downscale it to make it viewable.

i mean, i would suggest a 9900k with a gigabyte mobo, an rtx 2080, 32gb of ram, and an AIO (at least 240mm). also get a good 4k monitor with an ips panel if you don't have one already.

Rig 1: i7-9700k OC'd to 5.0ghz all core | EVGA XC RTX 2080Ti | ADATA DDR4 2400mhz 4x8gb | ASUS PRIME Z370-P | Asetek 550LC 120mm | ADATA 480GB SSD & Toshiba P300 3TB | Cooler Master Masterbox MB500 | Win 10 Home | Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum, G502 Proteus Spectrum, G933 Artemis Spectrum Snow Wireless Limited Edition, Corsair MM300 Mouse Pad | 2 MSI Optix Curved 27" FHD Monitors

(before i sold the WD drive and MSI gpu - https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/11946219 171 gaming. felt good.)

Rig 2: i7-7700k Stock clocks | MSI Armor GTX 1070 | ADATA DDR4 2400mhz 2x8GB | MSI Z270 A-Pro | WD Green 240GB SSD & 2TB Seagate HDD | Thermaltake Core G21 Tempered Glass Edition | Win 10 Home | 2 HP Omen FHD 144hz 24.5" Monitors

Rig 3: i7-6700 | GT 730 & GT 645 OEM | Some random DDR4 2133mhz 2x8gb sticks | OEM Dell Mobo | WD Black 2TB HDD & Toshiba 1TB HDD | Win 10 Home | 3 27" Dell FHD Monitors

Rig 4: i7-4770 | EVGA SSC 1050ti | Some random DDR3 ram 2x2gb and 2x4gb sticks | OEM Dell Mobo | Stock Cooler | 1TB WD Black HDD | Win 7 Home

RIP

Rig 5 (dead and dismantled and sold) : i7-7820X OC'd to 4.8ghz all core | MSI DUKE 1080ti | ADATA DDR4 2400mhz 4x8gb | Gigabyte X299 UD4 PRO | Asetek 240mm AIO | WD Green 240gb SSD | Other various components that I can't remember

Rig 6 (same fate as rig 5) i7-8700k stock clocks | MSI DUKE 1080ti | ADATA DDR4 2400mhz 2x8gb | MSI Z370 A-Pro | Asetek 550LC 120mm | WD Green 240GB SSD & Toshiba 2TB HDD | Other various components that I can't Remember
