GPU HELP

I need a little help with a used GPU I purchased. It is a AMD radon double xfx r9 280x. The card has one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connector. My power supply has (2) six pin with (2) 2 pin adaptors. I plugged the six pin into one of the power connector ports and I can plug one of the 6 pin adapators into the 8 pin connector leaving 2 open at the end. The 2 pin adapators won’t fit into the other two space as there are different shapes than the connector holes. The 2 pin adapator prongs are rounded on one side and square on the other end. The connector requires one square on all side and one like what described with the rounded side. I dont know if I explained this correctly but could someone explain to me what to do?  Thanks.

Yeah I an not sure why your 2 pin is half rectangular half round for both pins. It should be one square pin and one that is half and half.

That 2 pin should be able to slide over the 6 pin making a effective 8 pin If I read your post correctly.

I see that your PSU supports 6+2. This means you can make an 6 pin into an 8 pin. You need to slide the 2 pin along the 6 pin

So I should force the 2 pin into the empty two spaces. Sounds like round peg into square hole. Yikes! Are you sure?

By the way the PSU is a EVGA 450BT bronze if that makes a difference.

before you plug the 6+2 in put them together then plug them in..if you look you should be able to tell what way they fit together

450 watt?? hmmm i really dont think thats big enough even for a r9 280x i believe 550 is the min for it

Do not connect the EPS cable to the GPU!

no your PSU has 2 6+2 pci-e connectors that look like the one shown in the picture. You need to merge them together to fit them in your GPU

The two six pin are labeled VGA. No markings in the the (2) two pin. It also doesent make any difference how you hold them together the two pin have different shape connectors; no getting around that. To fit you would have to push a half round/halgpf square into a square opening.

Arian W  the picture you posted would fit my card but connectors are not shapedlike that. The  two pin you show have two different shapes. Mine have the same shapes, no square, only half round and square.

I did what Circeseye said to do and they fit, which if figured they would. Still doesn’t seem right but I can’t find anything to the contrary. I’ll just have to see what happens. Thanks for all the help.

well only the ''VGA'' cable or the 6+2 would fit in the GPU. if you need an 8 pin only thing you need to do is merge them together
