8+6 for Power link?

Go to solution Solved by corrado33,

It'll still work, provided there is extra space on the side of the 6pin where the other two pins would normally go. (So in the above example you'd have to cut some plastic to make room.)The extra pins will just sorta "hang over" the side of the 6 pin.

I've done it before (not with powerlink obviously), and it works fine.

What I don't understand is how are they ever going to make this so that it works with GPUs that have the sockets facing one way (latch on the far side) vs the other way (latch on the near side). And if you didn't know that was possible.... it is.... I know... I've switched 2 GPUs in the last 3 weeks that needed to have the power cables twisted 180 degrees to work.

EDIT: OHHHHH the power connectors are removable.... that's actually pretty neat.

So for EVGA Powerlink, you can put an 8 and 6 pin in the Graphics Card if you need to. But to actually power the Powerlink Adapter, there are two 8-pins that can't be switched. So what if your GPU only needs a 6 and 8 pin connectors? Can you put a 6 pin connector in the Powerlink adapter?

I don't think a GPU exists with one 6 pin and one 8 pin.
