New build planned. Thoughts?

Ryusen85

I'm planning a build that will be primarily an all around pc. Mostly plex streaming, some internet browsing, very light gaming (nothing newer than 5 years ago or so).

Parts list

Case: Phanteks Eclipse 600s

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming

Cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 1700

Ram: G. Skill TridentZ RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200 MHz

Cpu cooler: Noctua NH-U14S SE AM4

GPU: MSI Radeon RX 560 2GB

Power Supply: EVGA Super Nova 650W 80+ Certified gold rated

SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

HDD: Western Digital Blue 2TB 5400 x 2

Total right now is around $1100 for build.

To me this seems perfect for what I'm wanting with room for upgrades later.

Will this handle what I'm wanting to throw at it?

I believe the 560 consumes more power than a 1050, but they perform pretty similarly. Might as well shrink the power bill.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Where are you getting your parts from cause you should be able to purchase a much better build for that money

@fasauceome so you think 1050 will be just as good but have lower TDP? Sounds like it will also save more doing plex since that runs A LOT.

@lmeneses everything is sourced from newegg. Prices change periodically. I might also get some parts from Amazon when i buy. Whichever is cheaper. I plan on buying everything end of February to early March.

Depending on how serious and demanding your Plex setup/content is, the features that your GPU supports can be pretty important. AMD doesn't support VP9 still but should support HEVC which is needed for H265 content. I think hardware acceleration is locked behind Plex Pass though.

I also might suggest going cheaper on the SSD, MX500's have been extremely good deals lately and would allow for some extra budget to move up to a 4TB. On the other end, a PM961(960 Evo OEM) or another NVMe drive would be a massive improvement over a higher end Sata SSD for similar cost.

1st gen Ryzen has also had some really healthy discounts, I've seen 1700X's go for $170 and with Ryzen 3000 coming this summer I'd try to find a good deal on one. If you're already buying that Mugen 5 of which I've always wanted to give some Scythe products a try, most 1700X's seem to come without a cooler for about the same price. If you're local to a Microcenter or know someone near one, they have 1700X's for $149.99 right now.
