Missing Ram Socket

I have a Notebook 15 from hp, my task manager says that my computer has two ram sockets  but when I open my laptop up one of the sockets are completely taken off.

Looking at general HP Notebook 15 motherboards there are some with 1 and some with 2 slots.

 

Knowing the exact model would help.

Many laptops have some of their RAM on the other side of the motherboard.

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.

My Asus VivoBook is even weirder as CPU-Z thinks it has two slots under SPD, one populated, one empty.  When in fact it has one socket of 4GB and 4GB soldered onto the PCB.  It correctly shows 8GB total in dual-channel mode though on the memory tab.
