Unexplained high temps post-delid

CPU: i7-7700k

Clock speed: 4.8GHz core, 4.2GHz uncore

Voltage: 1.3v + Loadline calibration 'turbo'

Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

 

CPU has been de-lidded and liquid metalled, and has had the IHS replaced with copper.

Is the cooler not enough? Should I invest in a h100x? Or could the de-lid be wrong?

you must have put to much liquid metal, by the sounds of it you seem like you are not as experienced

pressure is too low between IHS and the cpu (or too much thermal paste), welcome to hell friend, it takes me all day to align my IHS and set the Hyper212s screws pressure so that temps are what I want.

FYI, CPU has been re-lidded with silicone. Seems to be aligned perfectly and making perfect contact with the cooler.

its the pressure that makes a huge difference, also make sure the cpu holding bracket is below the IHS (when I lapped my IHS, I lapped it too much and I literally had a gap between IHS and 212 that I could push an piece of A4 paper through)

The cooler is screwed down until it cannot go any further. Have also re-pasted it multiple times.

I modded the screws that I use to screw the 212 down, otherwise the surface contact was not great and my computer would overheat going in to bios.

My CPU idles at 40-45c and maxes out at 78-80c under load at 4.8GHz

What are your ambient temps when you're hitting 80c under load?

put a high end water cooler directly on the die

I've got my delidded 6700k plopped into the motherboard with no adhesive and so the CPU clamping arm is holding everything together so I highly doubt it's an alignment in the socket or pressure issue. Take it out and show us the exposed die and underside of IHS.
