Need suggestion for deciding between these two laptops!

Hello Everyone,

So I have been a macbook user since 3 years and I own a Macbook Pro 2015. I want to go back to windows as I am studying engineering and many softwares are not supported in macbooks. I am great fan of lenovo thinkpad series and have tied my option between two Thinkpads, X1 Xtreme and T580. I will be doing programming on my laptop in Matlab and other IDE. I love to play overwatch and it will be a great boost if I could play it on the go on my laptop. I have attached the spec sheet for both laptops below and the price is same for both of them i.e. $1370. X1 Xtreme is the one with 1050ti and T580 is the one with MX150. Please suggest me which will be better option according to price, durability and performance.

if you are going to use solidworks, laptops with Quadros are much preferred.

from what I can tell, the Xtreme is the better option because it has stronger GPU and 4K on a monitor this small makes no sense (and hurts battery life). There are pros here that are much better than me though

Honestly between those two I would just bootcamp your mac and install windows. You have one of the nicest recent macbooks.

Otherwise I would look for a zbook or thinkpad with quaddro even if you end up a generation or two older.

One thing I can vouch for with the T580 is that it should be pretty easy for user upgradeability. Could save some money by going for less ram and less storage and then popping it in yourself. That's what I did with my T530 and T450. Lenovo wanted something like $600 for 16gb of ram when I bought my T530, but I just got it with the base 4gb, popped down to memory express, and got x2 8gb sticks for $120 and faster than stock.

Also, what about an external GPU enclosure for a Quadro? The T580 has thunderbolt 3, right? Not sure if that would be too bulky, though. Just a thought.

System Specs: Second-class potato, slightly mouldy
