Hello guys!

Can you tell my why power consumption is such a big deal for cpu and gpu?

AMD cpus and gpus always gets a minus points on reviews because of it. but.. why is it a big deal?

I have a small airconditioned room so temps shouldnt be a problem(excellent air flow on pc case as well) and Im not really bothered by electric bills.

any other reason why it seems like a big deal?

- Thread moved to Cases and Power Supplies.

Power consumption also affects your choice of PSU. A bad PSU with components requiring lots of power tends to end up with a dead PSU and potentially dead components.

Just costs more and makes a place warmer. AMD CPUs are now quite respectable (especially considering Intels recent CPUs) for performance per watt. Their Radeon GPUs don't quite fare so well, but still aren't completely awful if tuned. If you choose to overclock basically power usage tends to begin to climb exponentially.

Yours faithfully

@TheRandomness thanks

 but I think my 850w psu will be able to handle a vega 64 strix and 2600x.  so no real threat like shorter lifespan of hardware, performance degradation over time?

thanks @Lord Nicoll. Im fully aware of those stuff,, cost, temp , oc . what Im asking is .. if I dont care with all those stuff, is there anything else I should be afraid of with high pow consumption? again, bills , not a problem, temps, well managed

There are a multitude of reasons, a) temps, a hotter chip necessitate a more expensive coolers, and can be exponentially harder to cool and OC,

b) atom migration, DC current moves in one direction pulling atoms much like a river pulls rocks and sand from it's bed, thereby higher power components are more likely to fail sooner (though the true affect of this is believed to be miniscule)

c) Thermal fatigue as higher power chips, demand better coolers, and most users/operators tend to cheap out on said coolers, such chip are likely to be done in quicker due to thermal fatigue, (thermal fatigue is a phenomena which caused by the the expanding and contracting of components at different rates as they heat and cool, this often leads to the failure of solder joints and is a common cause of failure amongst electronic components, aircraft, spacecraft, and etc.)

And etc.
