Which used GPU's should my friend buy?

BrokenProgram01

So my friend is upgrading his desktop and has $200 to spend on the GPU I was able to find 2xR9 290x's, 2xR9 390's, and a gtx1060 6gb all being sold at $200 and a dual r9 390 from PowerColor for $125 and he was wondering which he should buy?

(note the R9 GPU's have been used for mining)

he has a MOBO that is capable of Crossfire and SLI but not sure which one and a 750watt power supply for EVGA 750 watt B2 for PSU

I spent €350 on a 6 month old GTX1070 like 8 months ago, probably overpriced a bit, but thats why im here lol i think you should be able to find a 1070 for around $200 these days? I could be wrong though.

many youtubers have tested this(including linus i think)and they have concluded that mining doesn't amount to a measurable performance degredation

Crossfire and SLI are not recommended and SLI is not possible with a 1060. The sad truth is, hardly any developers build their games with SLI/Crossfire support so it's best to always count on single card performance. He'd be better off with an Rx 580 or a GTX 1060, provided the pricing is right. Also, it's not a big deal if it's a mining card, there have been a million reviews discussing this debate.

I'm mentioning crossfire and SLI because I can get 2 r9 cards for the price I can get a 1060

And yes as, @VanHeist stated you can grab used 1070's for around 200$ USD. Most basic 1070's are 230 or under, personally I paid 250$ for mine which is a killer deal on a FTW 2 card.

But you will be presented with many graphical glitches, power delivery issues and much lower single card performance which means you'll be crippled and running(effectively) one R9 card that's inferior to the GTX 1060. As stated previously, most games don't support crossfire or SLI.

I thought that most of the 1070's were still around 250 which is above what my friend is willing to pay but ill see if I can find him a 1070 near 200

For that money I would try and get a GTX 980 ti. It is as powerful as a 1070 and go for less.

The 980 ti is also a great 1440p 60hz gaming card and the others are not.

I would recommend the 390's over the 290's due to larger frame buffer. They are really good deals used.
