Time to Upgrade?

So here is my current setup:

Yes don't judge its a prebuilt but I have made changes:

HP Envy Phoenix

i7 4770 3.4 ghz 4core 8 thread AIO cooled

12 Gigs of Ram

RX 570 8 gig MSI Armor

Msata 120 Gig HDD with 1tb mechanical

 

 

What I am considering is a system built around a 2600x or non x cost depending on a Mortar board from MSI with 16 gigs of ram and ill probably just reuse the video card and maybe drop a 1050 in the HP and give it to my son.  Would the build of a 2600 be enough of an upgrade even at a few generations old over an i7 system or should I just wait for zen 2?

The 2600 is a good upgrade over the i7 but also new Ryzen would make it even cheaper. Would you be willing to wait a couple months for that? If not, grab the 2600 now.

I strongly advise against getting an MSI board.

If you can wait, then I'd wait. Zen 2 sounds like it's going to be a significant boost over Zen 1, plus new graphics cards should come out around then too, so you could probably get a Ryzen 3 instead of a 5, get similar performance, and with the money saved up yourself to a better video card.

I've had too many bad experiences with MSI to ever recommend their motherboards.

Fair enough. Everyone makes their fair share of shitty stuff. I totally understand where you're coming from but I don't think that should fully take away from recommending their stuff. They did great with B450 overall.

When you have 2 B350 and 2 X370 boards fail, and now my Z270 board is on it's way out, you kind of blacklist them.

It's the only time I've had hardware fail like that. Ever.

They weren't all shit. MSI seemed to just have a completely shit line up.
