Hi I've made my first build a few years ago and was on a pretty limited budget now I'm looking to upgrade to make it better but again I'm limited on the amount I can spend was just wondering with my current setup where should I start. I was looking into getting a 1070 GPU to upgrade my graphics and then slowly building around that but kinda wanted someone elses opinion before messed up

Run from AM3. Run fast, run far.

I'd look at used options. Grab a used GTX 1070, and source a used Ryzen 1600/Intel 8400 or similar CPU/motherboard combo. Then grab 16GB of DDR4 RAM, an SSD, and call it a day. Find a cheap used 1TB HDD, and sell your old system forward to a local. If you live in a small town you'll likely be able to get a decent amount for it.

Welcome to the forum.

I was definitely looking into getting a possibly 2700x at some point was probably gonna be the third thing I bought after the graphics card, and motherboard. The build I was looking to work into was going  be:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

CPUAMD RYZEN 7 2700X 8-Core

Motherboard: GIGABYTE X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING AM4

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200

Graphics: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 8GB WINDFORCE OC

Storage: Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With my current case and Power supply. I was also thinking about water cooling but I'm really new to that, never sued it before, so not sure about that. The one I was looking at was: Corsair Hydro Series, H115i PRO RGB, 280mm and thank you im pretty glad to be here

You're not buying piece by piece over time though, are you? When upgrading it's always best to just save until you can afford to do it all at once.

$600 is more than enough to completely revamp the computer you have now.

II was gonna start upgrading with just the graphics card and then buy everything else when I got the money, if that would help my system. Then  was going to spread it out over a couple of months a little bit more each time I got paid but I can see what ur saying and if I could source some good used parts it might be a better option to get it all at once.

Ah, no, that's generally a very poor route to go. If you just save up, you'll get the best deals since parts are always dropping in price. If you wait 5 months, for example, we'll see the new AMD cards out, and they should smash everything else on the used market. Upgrading to the 1070 will definitely give you better frames than what you have now, but you'll also be seriously bottlenecked by that CPU.

Yeah I always assumed it was my video card that was holding my computer back because I thought the processor was pretty good when I bought it it was still pretty new. I had a friend who tried to talk me into getting a Ryzen 5 or 6 instead but I for some reason thought that more processors meant more power. I wish I had gotten the Ryzen instead and spent more on a video card because I cheapest out there as well. All in all the System in a whole really needs work the motherboard and RAM fought with each other for a long time until I found a good speed that made it mostly stable. I do appreciate all the help though.

Your CPU is realllly old. An i3 even stomps it into the dust. It might mean more power, I can't remember the power requirements, but it's not a great amount...and if you're thinking about running costs it's extremely negligible. Haha yeah I don't know why AMD has such issues with RAM. I had RAM issues with Ryzen and it's the reason I abandoned the platform and went back to Intel.

Yeah I've been considering switching to Intel myself was looking at the I7-8900K. I usually do AMD builds because AMD is cheaper up front. I normally don't have issues with them but this time didn't have as good luck. I do have a question if you wouldn't mind. How much experience do you have with water cooling because I have never done it before but where I lived I get a lot of dust in my computer and was considering a water cooling system to replace the air cooled but I'm a kinda leery it because i have never done it before.

None, I don't see the point TBH. It's more complex, if it fails you can easily lose components, etc. It also won't really stop dust; the radiators still require fans.

If you want to cut down on dust ingress, it's more important to focus on air flow, air pressure, and proper mesh covers.

None, I don't see the point TBH. It's more complex, if it fails you can easily lose components, etc. It also won't really stop dust; the radiators still require fans.

If you want to cut down on dust ingress, it's more important to focus on air flow, air pressure, and proper mesh covers.

Yeah that's pretty much why I hadn't messed with water cooling, I'm afraid that it will start to leak and destroy something before I realize it. I appreciate all of your help
