Buying PC components in the UK

Good morning forum,

 

I soon have to move to the UK for work reasons and wanted to ask what shops you guys could recommend, online and offline, for computer hardware. If you could attach some properties to the shop (e.g. really cheap, good customer support, quick exchange during warranty, etc.) that would be awesome too!

What I DO know if since you're moving to the UK, computer parts usually cost anywhere from 15-25% more over there than in the US due to VAT.

Once you add on all taxes that need to be paid US and EU prices are comparable on most items. The difference in perception is that US prices don't include the tax until you go to pay, where as EU prices DO include the tax. 

 

For example a 9600K is only $2 cheaper on new egg than it is from my local big box retail store, once you include all taxes. (but not including delivery or import taxes).

 

You may have mixed up VAT with import Duty, outside of the EU you have to pay import tax on goods, which is where the price increase happens compared to EU standard prices. Basically if you are in the EU order from within the EU, not only will it be cheaper (provided you do your research and get it from the best store) but you also get a 2 year warranty as standard. 

 

I've done the comparison on quite a few builds and always come within $40 of the US price (sometimes it's cheaper in the EU, sometimes more expensive, but never more than $40 difference)

Majority of items I get are from one of the above depending on price and availability. Also ebay for harder to source items or lower value items.
