Still using the 4770k?

Hey all, Just wanted to see just how many of you were still using the old 4770k or 4790k ?
This was what I put in my first build that just so happened to correspond to the launch of the 4770k.

Current Build:

MoBo:  ASUS Sabretooth TUF Z87   CPU:  Intel Core i7 4770k stock   GPU:  XFX Radeon 7850 HD (old and POS, but works for what I need it for)   Ram:  16GB HyperX DDR3 (1600 MHz) | SSD:  OCZ ARC 100 240GB  |  HDD:  1 TB Seagate Blue 7200rpm  |  PSU:  Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750 | Case:  Cooler Master HAF 932   Cooler:   ? Stock Intel Cooler ?

Would be if I didn't win my current CPU. Clocked it to 4.7GHz at 1.2v, hell of a gold sample and could be cooled no sweat by my 212 evo.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

That chip just seems to run and run and run...  Back in my super noob days, I OC'd my 4770k with the STOCK Intel fan and Heatsink and Thermal Paste, (i really didnt know any better lol) that was in the summer of 2013, not much OC, but still pushing it past stock. reverted to stock just to be safe after I learned better.  Still running to this day.

Current Build:

It's still going strong in the rig I gave to my partner, after I assembled my new one this month. I think I'm going to delid it and apply some liquid metal on the 4770k, see wants to see how far she can overclock it.

Still use them both. Mainly for old games they can actually handle.

Also for a dedicated stream/record rig or just got YouTube.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

Awesome!  you should let me know how high you can take it!  I would be interested in your results.

4690K count?

Would love to upgrade but still can't justify the cost of a complete system overhaul for just gaming & hobby streaming.

Are we supposed to change chip after a certain time or something? This chip just keeps going.

I'm not sure... either I'm killing mine but why am I able to OC at 4.6 stable, but for some achieving 4.2-4.4 seems like a feat of strength?

What about y'all? Any results over 4.5?

Useful build sum'up:

i7-4770k | 4.6 @ 1.300v

ASUS Z97-A

CORSAIR H100i with Thermaltake Riing 12

Silicon Lottery ?  and no, we arent necessarily supposed to just change chips, its just that the 4770k is now almost a 6 year old chip, and those that purchased at launch (myself included), have been using for a solid amount of time now.   :)  I was musing that the haswell chips seem to be a rock solid chip, that a large portion of people are still using, especially since the 4770k at least has been discontinued for just over 3 years now as well.

Well so far it hasn’t done anything. Prolly just a bad cpu. Unless I need an incredible amount of voltage to get anything past 4.3 to be stable. Gotta find my additional eps pin and see if it helps at all.

Alright! Today PC wouldn't POST after the night. Light was stuck on cpu, maybe I blew it or some sh*t like that. After clearing cmos and finally getting access to the bios, I'm seeing an i7-4790K.... now that's a problem! Or so I taught...

Today is a big day everybody, I've had this build since 2014 and 'TILL THIS DAY.... I didn't knew I had a 4790k instead of a 4770k. This might explain something about overclocking to!

Are you aware that FIVR Faults need to be disabled when using 1.3V or more? Also increasing VCCIN to 1.9V might be benificial. Would hope you could squeeze a little more out of your CPU.
