intel core i5 750 or AMD Phenom II X6 1100T for gaming?

I'm building a PC for my brother and have a choice between 2 cpu's to put in for him. Either the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T or an intel core i5 750. He mostly plays games like CSGO, Fortnite, PUBG, Rocket League and Overwatch. I understand that the i5 is gonna be better in some cases but the 6 cores on the Phenom may be better. Which CPU should I get him and why?

 

Edit: The CPU will be paired with a 7970 if that helps.

Both of those are really old CPUs. IIRC single core performance for the AMD is pretty bad, so I guess it comes down to if the games are multi-core aware or not.

This generation of single core was slightly better, higher freq with better base/boost clocks. Next intel generation was then sandybridge  and amd was pretty devastatingly leapfrogged 

 

As long as either platform is free, I'd probably go the amd, mainly because 16gb of ddr3 with high density chips is like $30 bucks new from China. 

 

Seems wierd as well I've a 1100t system I built yesterday out of spare parts

Maybe you could get a Xeon X3440, X3470 or similar instead of the i5-750? Those Xeons are newer and has hyper threading, and they have better single-core speed than the Phenom especially when overclocked.

the main reason its out of these 2 is because i already have the stuff lying around. My brother isn't that good for me to buy extra

Does the Intel board support overclocking? The i5-750 might be better for those games.

the board does support overclocking but not very well. It's an intel DP55KG, the amd will be on a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P

You might've already built it, but if you haven't, I would say that you should go for the AMD since it has 6 cores and a 6 core processor is pretty good for PUBG and CSGO.

i ended up going with the i5. I just tried both because I had a few hours spare time one weekend and after bench marking, the single core performance of the i5 was much better which seemed more important in 95% of games these days.
