GTX 770 for $50 . . . Good Buy?

freezingfire879

Hi, I'm building a budget PC for a friend that wants to play fortnite.  Recently I offered a guy $50 for his gtx 770 that he wasn't using.  Is this a good buy, and is this good enough for 60 fps fortnite on high to medium settings?

Yep. Not a perfect buy but it's good. I usually sell 680s / 770s in the $60 range. They're good cards; however, some 770s have bad coil whine. If you haven't, you should ask him if the card has coil whine.

If by chance it does, it's usually an easy fix; however, you could try asking for a couple dollars off.

When I had my 760 it was a real work horse... it did 60fps locked on AAA titles but you just can't turn on all the nv panel options for AA and all that as it will slow it down dramatically or supersampling.  So I can imagine the 770 will be very good if you want 60fps constant with proper game settings and nv panel settings and what not.

Yup, my 670 still is better than a GTX 1050, and a 770 would be better than a 1050 ti.

770 isn't better than 1050ti in modern games. It tends to be a bit worse. 780 is more equal to 1050ti.

well I dont have exact benchmarks. ?‍♂️ they are probably close enought, and as for 780 = 1050 ti, thats just downright false.

In modern games? 1050ti is closer to 780 than it is to 770. 780 is MAYBE 10% faster than 1050ti in modern games, and even that's being pretty generous to 780.

Don’t know why anyone would benchmark old and or weak cards for 1440.

But for that price, fort nite at 1080p would be ok for that game. Good inbetween card.

I stand corrected. I was going off of these numbers from Gamersnexus in 2016 wherein most of the games released in 2015 and 2016 had 780ti only like 20% faster than 1050ti (if that, sometimes it actually lost to 1050ti), which would put 780 within spitting distance of the 1050ti

However yours are both more recent and don't require assumptions on relative performance between 2 cards (namely 780ti and 780). So no, I wasn't pulling numbers out of my butt, however your numbers are more relevant.

Gonna have to check into that article more. Can’t belive a 780ti would only get 50 frames in bf1. Must be a huge difference with just putting a few letters on my cards.
