Help with my PSU choice

Go to solution Solved by NunoLava1998,

Don't go for the M12II. The fact it's from 2006 should tell you why not.

For a cheap power supply, go for the Corsair CX450 or CX550 (2017 versions, grey writing. The old ones were very bad and had green writing on them).

So, this:

So i got my system, all my components and after reading some reviews, i'm afraid to put it together and run it cause of the PSU i ordered.

This are the specs:

MOBO: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming (i'll change this to a Crosshair VI Hero in a week or so)

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x

GPU: ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1060

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 3200MHz CL16 2x8GB

SSD: Crucial MX500 250GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB

I got a Matrexx 55 case with 6 ID-Cooling fans, 3 in the front, 1 in the back and 2 at the top.

And for the PSU, i got a Thermaltake Litepower 650W.

Now, i've read that this is a low quality (shi**y) PSU and i should go for something else.

Now i'm afraid to mount my PSU and components as i don't wanna fry anything.

Can i get any recommendation on a decent PSU that can run my system? I'm on a tight budget. Or can i use this Thermaltake with no worries?

I'm from Romania, so my PSU choices are very limited, can't spend money on shipping fees (they go up to 40-50$, just not worth it).

I've read that the modular Seasonic M12II Bronze EVO Edition 620W is somewhat good and i can afford it now, it's on sale.

Is 550W enough for what i got? It's fairly cheap, the CX550.

If you can get an RM550x then I'd pick that, but if not I'd get a CX550M.

CX550M is better because of semi-modularity, CX550 is better because of rifle-bearing fan and more recent.

So, whichever's cheaper as the two are good options

Ok, so CX550M or CX550. They're both ok, The semi modular is like 10 bucks more expensive. So i'll get whichever they got in stock. You sure they are fine with my system? :)

Yeah, 550W is enough for your system.

There's no need to include notes about "2017 versions" or grey writing, by the way. There has only ever been one version of CX450/550 and one version of CX450M/550M.

Ah, okay. Wasn't aware of that, thought that since the old CX750M existed the 450-650 line also did

The CX non modular is better because it uses an LLC resonant design  as opposed to the double-forward in CXM.

They both use a rifle bearing fan.

CXM uses sleeve-bearing, CX uses rifle-bearing

No. They both use rifle bearing fans, as confirmed by a Corsair worker.

Corsair’s website is... messy.

They use Hong-Hua fans. Hong Hua simply don’t even make sleeve bearings anymore.

How convenient, I just looked on my CX550M box from 2017 and it shows a sleeve-bearing fan, and so do every single review of the CX550M! Must be a coincidence

Because it using using specs from Corsair. Corsair specs were not right. Not sure if they have been fixed.

They are all just referring to Corsair specs. Find one that takes apart the fan.

No, just logic.

Not sure if you saw my edited post, Hong-Hua doesnt make sleeve bearing fans no more.

Yes, the CX750, CX850 and M variants did have green labels, but those were fine (completely different platform to the CX430/500/600)

The new CX750M and CX850M uses the same PUQ-B platform, as do the old CX750/850 and M variants. The new ones are better though.
