You'll need risers if you want to be able to use the pcie 1x slots, and you won't be putting them in crossfire because the cards work independently. With $4000, you would get more hash out of 2 rigs with more efficient cards.

Main rig: i7 3770K @ 4.54, Sapphire R9 290, Sabertooth Z77, 16 GB Mushkin Redline 2133, Lian Li PC-P50R, Seasonic 860xp Platinum, Kingston Hyper X 3K 240GB

freeNAS server: AMD Athlon II 170u 20W, 5 x 3TB WD Red in raid-z1 (12 TB)

media centre: AMD A10-5700, crucial M4 (boot), running XBMC,4 x 3TB WD Red, 3 x 3TB WD green + 2TB green in FlexRAID (17 TB)

Run them separately. Just set a miner for each card.

anything cheaper?

Not really, if you're wanting 4 way crossfire it requires a higher end motherboard.

This is another choice

Or Maximus VI Extreme open boxed:

290x aren't worth it against 290's they only performance minutely slightly better ...and just saying since the difficulty has risen the cards cost significantly more.

id need 4 mobos then

No, you can use more than one gpu on a mobo. Even an amd and nvidia. Someone who is more knowledgeable may be able to elaborate on why/how that works.

use something like a litecoin calculator and see if its worth it to you

Holy shit. I can make 5 bucks a day if I use an R9 290x? I don't even pay for electricity so there are no downsides! Why didn't anyone tell me this before?

not crossfiring ? You don't need a bridge on the new cards (R7 and R9). Maybe don't crossfire in the AMD menu because the computer would consider the cards as one ?

congrats u just learned how to use your brain and GOOGLE!

too bad u still know nothing about cryptocurrencies and the current state of them!

I know what they are, I just never thought they were worth taking a look at how to mine them and if they are worth it.
