When "System" uses a lot of memory or disk or CPU, then usually, it is a driver.

"System" is the Windows kernel, which includes drivers.

Make sure your SATA controller drivers are fully updated. If they are, try older versions or uninstall them via Device Manager and restart the system, and let Windows do its thing, see if it help.

Unless you are experiencing problems with your computer this isn't an issue. Task Manager's disk usage isn't actually what it seems like, it reports activity time, not actually how much of the disk's bandwidth is being used. This just means that something is using the disk, and judging by System having a large part in that I would say Windows is probably updating something.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lately in my work environment, we've been seeing a ton of disk usage due to Windows 10 updates stalling. Check out your Windows Updates in Settings and see if there's a ton of stuff trying to install and either failing or just sitting idle while saying "Pending Install".

If this is the case, open Services and stop the Windows Update and Update Orchestrator services. Then you can open C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete all the contents. Then you can run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and it should restart these services and go look for updates again. If it worked, then disk usage should be substantially lower or at least not constantly at 95-100%.
