I purchased my pc about 3 years ago. It is cleaned monthly/bi monthly and experiences 2 to 4 hours of usage a day. I have heard that if a PSU fails, it can destroy the pc. Is this true and how often should I change the unit(I have never had a pc long enough to have a PSU fail on me, but I plan on keeping this one for years).

Is High Power a good brand? It has not given me any issues so far.

Specs: I5 2406p

MSI B150m Pro D motherboard

8gb ddr4 2400mhz RAM

600w PSU

MSI Reference cooling RX 480 8gb

1TB WD blue HDD

NZXT case with 3 ordinary white led fans

Below is my PSU

Never heard of that brand, but it's only 80+ and it isn't even 600W (only 540W).

I would switch it out for a Corsair CX650

The power supply will only destroy the PC if it's a low quality one, which this appears to be, but it's only when it dies (which, since you've been using this for 3 years, is fairly soon).

The rule of thumb is 5 years, but I would imagine that should only apply to units that didn't cost a ton like the Corsair AX series or something. 80+ white is never on a high quality ATX unit, so the 5 year max is something I'd follow here.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

i have had a EVGA 650W PSU explode before but it was due to user error, but this PSU looks fine but clean out the dust. the PSU may not be ready for 600W (from what i see, i would only recommend like 300-400 watts at the max)

Its the Retail brand of Sirfa, who are used for example Silverstone Strider Platinum and others...

The thing is: You can't rate anything by brand as they have low(est) End System Integrator shit and high end "built like a tank".

But your PSU doesn't look too god, I'd replace it with something awesome...

That power supply is 600W. It just has 540W available on the 12V rail.

I know what you really meant was "computers mostly use 12V with barely any load on minor rails, therefore the power there is hardly useful" and you're right, but let's not confuse the terms.

I would be too cheap to replace it, but then good replacement PSUs aren't that expensive so it's not a bad idea to get something better for not much money.

How difficult is it to replace one? I only have changed GPUs and RAM.

The power supply itself is mounted to the back of the case with only 4 standard cross-head screws. You only have to unplug all the cables, unscrew the screws, screw the new PSU and connect all the cables again. Especially if they aren't routed through the back of the case, but just hang in there through the middle.
