Building a home Nas system

Hello! I really don't know too much about freenas and picking the right hardware but I need to build a home Nas system for storing video and photos. I have a budget at 300 is this possible with this budget or should I go with another option?

Save more money and buy a prebuilt system like a QNAP, Synology or WD unit. I've asked the same question as you a year ago on here and trust me you will not get much help if you know nothing about the hardware needed.
