Router: Wired - without Wifi vs Wired - with Wifi

Hello LTT forum,

I’m in need of some assistance, I’m not to familiar with routers so I’m hoping to get some answers here.

 

what im after:

- Home network with a wired connection (this part I have).

 

- Dedicated access points, mesh network, still debating on which to use, using google WiFi currently.

 

Reason for wanting to go away from google WiFi:

- Personally experiencing unreliable WiFi speeds and have to reboot often to get the correct WiFi speed, wired part is working perfectly however.

 

So what I’m wondering is if I’m better off using a router dedicated for wired network only or if I should opt for a router with wifi capabilities, but deactivate the wifi as I want to use mesh capable access points.

 

Would also appreciate recommendations on router model (with link if possible)

it depens a little bit on your budget an how big the space is.
The "Router" you are talking about is a combination of many different devices. Maybe in your case you want to have these devices split up.
If you can give more information about the situation that would be nice.

you could use a unifi usg, an Edge router or a pfsense box

if you don’t need a lot of features like DPI and don’t have an internet faster than 600 megabits/s this ones should work. If you do need more power you could get more powerful versions of these three router options.
