So i need an ATX motherboard and a CPU that will be used mainly for gaming. I have a few choices in my mind:

MSI Z87-GD65

Asus Maximus VI Formula or Asus Maximus VI Hero

Asus Z87 Deluxe (Is Dual worth it?)

i5 4670k or i7 4770k

Which ones are worth the money in the long run?

CPU: Intel i5 4670k @ 4.4Ghz | Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero | RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Black | GPU: Asus Strix 1080 Ti | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro | Storage: 2x 500GB Samsung 850 EVO | PSU: Seasonic 80+ Platinum 1000W | Display: ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q Cooling: Corsair H100i GT | Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB Red | Mouse: Logitech G502 | Audio: Beyerdynamic DT-880 Premium with O2 DAC/AMP

If you can use the features of whatever motherboard you're getting, it's good.

If you're paying more for features that you don't use, it's a waste of money.

If you don't need any special features, go ahead and get the cheapest 1150 mobo that fits your needs

There's no point getting the i7 over the i5 for gaming. Most games don't really take advantage of HT.

as far as cpu the 4770k is more for editing and rendering (not saying its bad for gaming) but i dont know much about i5 4670k i would go with the vi hero

Gigabyte/MSi are the two board manufacturers I would recommend for durability. Heard about too many problems with RMA on Asus motherboards recently to suggest them (they are still good quality) and in general I don't really like Asus. If you're not overclocking, I don't think you need a high-end board at all. But like what WoodenMarker said, don't pay for features you won't use and that'll help with narrowing down options. The rest is up to you for it's price or it's looks.

Edit: i5 4670k is a killer CPU overall for it's price, and you really don't need much better than that from Intel when gaming right now.

The 4670K is basically the best possible CPU you can get for gaming, the 4770K will not make much if any difference while being a sight more expensive. As for the mobo, I agree that you probably shouldn't be paying for fancy mobos with oddles of features if you don't actually plan on using any of those feature. And of course most importantly, is it the right colour? (not even joking, that is literally all that matters these days unless you need the extreme overclock stuff :P )

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

You dont need the 4770k for gaming, stick with the 4670k save your self the money. Also do you plan to overclock it?

- Because if not, go for the 4670.

Well, I will be doing a little OCing and I also care about the looks. I guess the formula and the deluxe is out of the question. I like the look of the GD-65 a bit more, but what features does it have over the hero and vice versa? As for the CPU, I will most likely be getting the 4670k then.

Making me blush the way you are talking about the beast of a CPU in my rig.

Whats good to look out for on motherboards nowadays are onboard sound. If you don't plan on buying a seperate soundcard. Get a decent one in your MB.  G1 Killer/sniper series have flawless audio.

As far as I know it's a small savings to get the 4670 instead but it's still money saved. If you want to look into overclocking in the future even if you don't want to do it right now, just get the 4670k anyway.

Aye that was my first thought and I'm actually OCing now, was a good choice to go for the K even if I never thought about it. Good reply

I have DT 880's.

I don't want the green color since my gfx card is red. ;x

Also, what makes the GD65 "gaming"? Anything to actually care about?

I can do more than that if you like ;P

As for the GD65 http://techreport.com/review/24945/msi-z87-gd65-gaming-motherboard-reviewed

It looks like a pretty solid board to me. Killer NiC and good onboard audio, fan control options aplenty etc.

They say cases with LED's up to their balls are for gaming. Research about specs is what is key. Good mobo though, look at reviews and features that are advertised on it. How about this?

MSI Z87M-GAMING

Cheap, good value, good reviews, good sound-card, compatible and most importantly....RED!

Also, what makes the GD65 "gaming"? Anything to actually care about?

- Gaming Device Port: Optimized with Triple Gold-plating for High Polling Rate Gaming Devices

- Killer Ethernet: Kill Your Lag

These two things are probably what make it "gaming", but I don't think either are special compared to other mobos for most people.

Not really sure what the BiOS is like but it sounds pretty good. Overall, it's feature list is extensive but nothing that's useless to the average person. Looks like a quality board overall.

What's better about the hero? I don't mind spending a little more for it too since it's pretty sexy. :P

nothing, asus isn't something I'd recommend. The Msi board looks great and performs.

The i5 would be fine with the MSI but get the gaming version. I prefer ASUS motherboards and products in general but the MSI is good too however the current haswell CPUs have a serious heat issue...just so you know....

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.
