Noctua - NH-D9L Vs be quiet! - Dark Rock 4

Bravo1cc

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of replacing my Noctua - NH-D9L(six months old), i have two reasons for this, one is that i am building a PC for my partner and she may need a better fan and this could be it. On the other hand this would fit in my build better(Colour Scheme) and better a better cooler i think... based on the max TDP. I am not by any means an expert on air coolers and have no interest in a water cooler at all. Would this be an upgrade or would this be a waist of time? Please see the link below of my current built and honestly the cost doesn't bother me so its not a factor due to wanting to get a better air cooler for my partners new build anyhow. Many thanks for taking the time to read this in advance.

Can you tell what CPU cooler you're planning on buying? This link doesn't work for me.

EDIT: Nvm, read the title. A Dark Rock 4 would be a decent upgrade in terms of slience and thermals. And for a 1600x, even an Arctic Freezer 33 eSports ONE will be plenty.

Won't you need a cooler either ways? the dark rock pro 4 is better at cooling but won't be much different than the noctua, but since you only have a 1600X and these chips aren't limited by heat I'd keep the lesser cooler and give your partner's pc the better cooler if it'll be an overclocking machine.

It's definitely an upgrade. The NH-D9L is 110mm tall and only appropriate when you can't fit a large cooler.

What are your current temps and what are your partner's system specs?

Hi Guys,

So i will be having a cooler yes but the plan would be not to buy a cooler for my partner's machine if i don't upgrade my air cooler as their machine will have a AMD 2200G under the hood with the stock cooler. They will need to be updated as i plan to pass on my 1600X when the AMD 3000 series is out and plan to go with 3600x or the 3700x if they are any good. I am aware that these may need better cooling and would rather be ahead of the change and plan the air cooler change now rather than later and honestly even if the 3000 series isn't any good then i will have a better cooler anyway and i don't see the harm in that as well as it matching my build better in the end anyway. Honestly thanks alot for replying guys. I don't normally struggle with hardware but cooling is not  something i am very good with on the CPU side.

As a side question, is there much of a benefit going from a good air cooler to a AIO CPU water block? Are the gaines worth the risk as well as the cost?

There's more cooling performance to be had from a high end 240 / 280mm AIO over a high end cooler but it's usually not a great value for the higher price and can't be as quiet as some air coolers like the DR4. At least for the 1600x, the DR4 is probably overkill since it's pretty easy to cool even with oc'ing unless you really need it as quiet as possible.

My bad, very sorry for that.

I see, so it would cool better but probably overkill and mostly would be for aesthetics. I thought as much for AIO coolers as they are pricey and i've heard they are noisy. Thanks alot for your help!!!
