so i was looking on the Gigabyte site and there are a lot of newer firmware's for my ab350m-ds2

but i am not sure if i will get any benefit from updating the BIOS. I have a ryzen 5 1600 CPU which as i understand is summit ridge, and my current BIOS is F4.

the bios update notes refer to newer cpus like raven ridge which i believe is 2nd generation ryzen.

i am also under the impression that AGESA resets its numbering with each processor generation so i don't know if any point to updating.

always apprehensive of doing BIOS updates so i want to check if its necessary.

the reasoning behind this is my new memory is only running at 2133 and i want to enable XMP(currently disabled) , so want to check if i should be on the latest bios before doing so

My opinion is to not update bios unless you have to, or the new update ad new features.

just throw the latest BIOS onto it, you can always revert if something is broken in the latest BIOS for some reason

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

To run your mem at it's rated clock by enabling XMP does not require the latest BIOS (well, it kind of depends but 2133MHz shouldn't require any update).

Features, bug fixes, improved compatibility, stability, security, are the main reasons for BIOS updates but should really only be done as necessary.
