Im deciding between these laptops :

-HP Spectre x360 [15" with a dedicated GPU and 16gb of ram]

-Lenovo Yoga 930 [Non-Glass, again looking for 12-16gb of ram and this line doesnt have a dedicated GPU which is sad but i like the pen holder and FHD option big plus for me]

-Dell XPS 2-in-1 [15" Preferably, but i can consider a 13" in all of the mentioned laptops, but yeah again 16gb of ram pref and Vega graphics is fine]

What are your thoughts? Which would you pick and why? Opinions on pros vs con of each? Lets discuss, i wanna know what the community thinks.

Little background on me :
I'd spend a max of 1700 or 1800 on a laptop, I am going to start college and would love this for that. Smart household so i want a nice portable solution i can use as a tablet and laptop and i am a gamer. Got a 7700k with a 1060 at home triple monitor setup and thats my main rig, looking to upgrade to 2060(VERY likely to change) sometime if i find a really good deal. I like the idea of a pen too and i prefer a holder for the pen but if it doesnt i would just get a case that has a holder its kinda fine for me i guess. Responsiveness is a must and id prefer a "future proof" setup.. spend big now so i dont have to buy another one within the next 3/4+ years. Battery life is a big thing, i want atleast 7+ hrs and i will definitely game occasionally on this.... light photoshop and premiere here and there... When i say game btw, i dont expect to do anything more than leauge (might TRY Black ops just to see  how it runs and any other light game but all heavy gaming will be done on my desktop so no worries there) And yeah... multi-tasking is a thing for me so definitely want more ram and would prefer larger capacity OR smallest SSD possible IF the laptop is easy to open up and swap my own SSD into it later (will definitely put in like a 1TB) same goes for ram, if i can add more later im 100% down for it. uhhh yeah, think thats it... anything i missed out on just ask im here!

OH i also  wouldnt mind holding out if there is something up and coming on the horizon you guys would recommend i wait for. a refresh of any of the above or a new contender in the 2-in-1 space im all for it!!!!!

I would get the XPS, that line of laptops are really nice and good value. On a side-ish note, upgrading from a GTX 1070 to a RTX 2060 is barely an upgrade, you're looking at like 10% better performance, I wouldn't do it.

One for XPS, got it haha
Please ignore that, i meant 1060 not 1070 (typo, corrected it) and the 2060 upgrade is up for debate... right now it seems like a good idea to me but im giving it time. i wont upgrade till summer or wait for next black friday sooooo alot could happen. we'll see

Don't have much difference compared to 8705G in real world performance

I assumed so, but just wanted to confirm. Well - i cant pick it up with a 8305G and 16gb of ram, and its not upgradable soooo yeah... I am currently leaning more towards the spectre right now! After a few review videos and very detailed research (detailed by my standards lol) and yeah... i might go for a spectre with least amount of storage and ram available (just to cut initial cost, and i will personally upgrade that later on)... thoughts?

If you're looking at the Vega model: Don't get it. Poor thermals and worse battery life

Well, i meant the Spectre x360 MX150 model over the Vega GPU model

What I want to tell you is, there are many cheaper MX150 laptops to choose from, not just Spectre x360 15 only

I'm going through the same situation right now I'm starting college next year for a industrial design major with a minor in CS, I been looking for a laptop that will last me long, my main priority is battery life, and the 2 in 1 functionality.

For me both the Spectre vega and the xps 2 in 1 are out since the battery life is really poor on both (though if I would choose one int would be the xps for ssd upgrade ability, maybe try under voltage), though I'm still deciding my main option right now is the spectre x360 13 with the mx150, my second option is the yoga c930. The xps 13 2 in 1 is out since it has a 2 core processor.

P.D. with both of this laptops I'm considering using a eGPU for CAD programs though it would be really expensive I haven't decided in it if I dont go that route I will get the Lenovo P1 with the p1000

Yeah, CS Major here - with plans to go into computer engineering as well. I just want a 2 in 1 for the versatility and i also want a battery that can take me through an entire day(which is actually gonna be shorter than 8 hours generally speaking). Im just going back and forth right now but i do agree that im leaning on the spectre a bit more right now. MX150 model. I kinda want a 15" tho but i can settle for a 13" as well... Guess this is a post for us both? Let me know what you decide on! Ill let you know as well. Heading to best buy soon to field test a few and see waht i ultimately decide on. Hopefully purchasing by next week or the week after.
