windows 10 performance

Ok, so for the last 9 months or so windows 10 has been rather sluggish unless i have task manager open at the same time, then it seems to run normally. any ideas as to why this would be? it was fine until this all started and i've been running win 10 since it was an insider build, albeit i've changed my GFX card, had no choice really it was a GTX530 haha and finally gave up the ghost not long after win 10 came out. to be fair that card had a hard life. 

I've contacted windows cust support a few times and they've not really been any help, well... they've tried to no avail and the last one suggested a clean install. recently i've been thinking it might be the SSD? no clue why but i have.

Do you have a ssd? That would really speed it up.

yeah, the OS and only the OS are on an SSD, everything else is split between 2 HDDs

Try a malware scan, because bogging down the system until you open Task Manager to see what's wrong sounds like something malware would do.

It's a stretch but do you recall installing anything 9 months ago?
