Build Plan

I bought a rtx 2070 for Christmas to use in my system to get better performance for my pc. Replacing my 1060 3gb was nice as my fps in Far cry 5 and Bf5 increased a lot but I saw that my i5 7400 was bottlenecking. I also only have 8gb of ram, so even running one tab of chrome drops me 20 fps or even more on specific games. My motherboard is msi b250 Bazooka, so i cant go past a i7 7700k and the motherboard only supports 2400 speed ram. I guess what i am asking is what would the upgrading path be? I currently have only 300$ and I don't know where to go from here for my pc. If I didn't explain well enough on what my situation is, then just ask. Thanks!

Wow thank you man, I might actually just do this. A couple questions if you don't mind? First, why does the Ryzen processor cost so much less than the i5 7400 I have in my system, when the cpu is supposed to be worse? And, second, Isn't intel better for gaming, I don't know much about gaming pcs' but I heard that you want to go with Intel for gaming and AMD for editing/streaming. Thank you so much for answering and taking your time to make this list for me

What do you mean "waiting for 3rd gen Ryzen's review"?  Thanks for the response :)

oh and sorry for quoting again but is the Ryzen 7 2600x better than the i7 8700k?

youd see a pretty big improvement going to a 7700/7700k that would probably be good for a RTX2070 and goign forwards for a while.

changing to a 2600 is an interesting option that opens some doors to CPU upgrades in the future but if you just want to game and not worry too muc hjust getting the i7 would do you nicely

Next gen Ryzen (3rd gen / 3000 series) will be road mapped this week most likely so we will get some info but you wont be able to buy one for a few months so depending on your patience we will have to see

2600X is significantly slower than the 8700k but depends on your use case if you can take advantage of that

If you want to stream games go for 2600x or wait for 3. Gen Ryzen

because of a 14nm shortage at intel, price to performence? no. look at the 2600 for example, it's about 8400-8500 levels of gaming performence, but costs less and has hypertreading.

ripjaws are the same price and have cl15 over the 16 you listed. wouldn't put a 2700x on a hdv board...

btw, the amd keynote is on wednesday...

Wellllll then i'd really push for the 2600 actually over the 7700, and see how 3rd gen goes. prices will drop a lot once November comes around again and you can go to an 8 core if you arent happy with the streaming performance of the 2600.

edit: you want to pick a beefy board if you think you want to upgrade to an 8 core later, there are some guides for this but cheap side i'd get a fatality b series board or go taichi x series that will enable you to do some OCing which is always fun if not you can kind of pick whatever for most part

because you can just clock up a non x to the same speeds. and for the difference in price you could get a really nice aircooler like the freezer 33 esports one. the board because of that sweet 12 phase premium power design on the cheap

the cpu power design. the fatal1ty uses 12 great power phases to supply power to the cpu really well. only the taichi linup can top it on x470. and the price is pretty good for it, so that's why i recommend it. the pro4 could technically hold it, but would have some problems with keeping higher overclocks stable
